Walt Disney World Ticket Price Increase Coming;

We're going in April ... can/should I buy my tickets (5 day base) now to avoid the price increase? Link them to MDX now? Will they be valid?

You can definitely buy them now, and I certainly would. They'll be valid - unused tickets never expire. And there's no reason not to link them to your MDX account as soon as you get them - with a trip coming up in April, you'll be able to book FP+ soon and the tickets will need to be linked in order to do so.

Disney used to bank (literally) on guests buying 10 day tickets, having them use less days than that during a visit, and then them misplacing/losing the card with the remaining days at home. Linking cards to online accounts and MagicBands makes that all but a thing of the past. I'm guessing someone at Disney formulated they would make more money in the long run ditching the non-expiration option and having guest guests pay current rates each visit.

I have never understood why anyone would buy the no expiration option. Let's say you bought a 10 day ticket park hopper with no expiration. That's $1050.

Now let's assume you bought two 5 day park hopper passes separately:

That's $345/ea, for a total of $690. A savings of $360 over buying a 10 day pass with no expiration.

If you had bought a season pass, you could go an an unlimited amount of times for something like $675. In addition, the annual pass saves you $17/day on parking and gets you discounts on food and other purchases, so the actual cost (even if you only consider the parking discount which for 10 days is $170, making the real cost of your annual pass even if you only use it for 10 days only $505).

Why in the world would you pay for the no expiration option?????

First, I think your numbers may be off a little...the 10 pack is no where near 1050.

You have to look outside the box....there are many good reasons for non expiring tix and I often reco in certain situations.

We usually visit family in Tampa once a year. We like to go the parks one day out of that week. If we did this each year, that would be at least 100 a person. We bought a 10 pack about 3 or 4 years ago and are about halfway through....that ten pack, hopper, with water parks was $640 dollars. if we only considered the pak admission that would equal $64 a visit. When we factro in teh water parks (which we love) it equals a little over $32 a visit.

We also try to come for a disney Vacation at least once a year. But we never do a park every day. We usually stay a week...hit the parks 2 days, waterpark another day, maybe Universal, maybe the beach.

So, as a guard against inflation we bought another pack last year. We have about 15 park visits, plus about 15 water park visits left. We hope this lasts us the next ten years. The last pack was i think 740ish....

There is no way an AP makes sense for us. a 5 packs doesnt make sense either.

You can really save a lot of money with non expiring if you use them a certain way.

this is exactly what we do to.

We wont be going to Disney as much when our non expiration tickets end . Getting too expensive for a family to go

The price for non expiring ticket used to be much more reasonable, I'm a FL resident and bought a 7 day non expiring ticket years ago for about $350-$400 I still have 4 days left I go about once a year, some years I go to the parties and buy a special event ticket but when I go the parks instead of paying $100 to get in it costs me about $50 or so, that's why the non expiring tickets were a good thing for people like me. I think now the non expiring tickets do have an expiration date which is in 2030.

I totally agree with this.

I'm a little nervous. My DW and I are Florida bound in March, and for Christmas I bought her, and myself, a 10 - day park hopper with the water park and more option, and was going to add the no-expiry option when we get there. I just called Disney and they suggested I go to either theme park or downtown Disney and upgrade it. I explained that I live in Ontario and that isn't an easy thing for me to do.

We're normally in the Orlando area once or twice a year, but only for a few days at a time. So the no-expiry option on the 10 day ticket made sense.

10 - Single day admissions (w/park hopper) - 10 x 142.71 = 1427.10
10 - Water park admissions - 10 x 56.45 = 564.50
Total = $1991.6
vs
10 Park hopper w/water parks and more & no expiry = $830.70

So in my situation it definitely made sense to go this route.

Here's hoping....

Our trips are usually for 4 days and we hop.

4-day park hopper $348.75 divided by 4 = $87.19 a day.
And if you only make it to the park 3 days on that trip, kiss the 4th 87-dollar day goodbye.

10-Day non-expiring hopper $754.01 divided by 10 = $75.40 a day.
Plans change, only make it to the park 3 days, no problem, save the rest for next time.

Plus you get 10 days of water park, Disney Quest or minigolf included.

That's the true value right there. One water park visit is about $50 right now, and prices only go up. Having a non-exp pass with waterpark means even if all the theme park visits are used up, you still have 10 waterpark / espn / DQ visits that never expire. Ever.

My kids all still have 2 passes each on their tickets from back in 2004 before they created an expiration. My son had them reprinted on new media and to double check them. He used one of his passes last summer.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a couple non-exp passes to hedge against inflation, but don't think I will. The way I visit it would be better to buy normal passes and hold on to them.

I wonder how long it will take WDW to make all passes expire within 12 months after you purchase them? That's the way it works at Disneyland.

We have a package booked with FD for our next trip, but it's only a couple of years before we are doing couples trips as the kids will be older and in college or not going with us. I'm thinking about buying the non exp. passes since I think we will do F&W for a couple days each year and not a full vacation. It would give us 4-5 years at todays prices. Of course that's as long as they honor them in the future, which I do not see an issue with.

We're at that point now, just the two of us, and that's why we do the smaller trips which are not very practical expiring ticket wise. :sad2:

At that point, if we can't store the passes, it just makes more sense to buy & use APs and overlap trips by 11months in the year. That's what I've been doing anyway over the last 3 trips / 6 years. The ones I hold onto are for the future when we no longer want to be in the Disney parks as much.

That's what we do! We get the 10 day non-expiring... when you only go once a year... if you're lucky... it's worth it to use a few days over 3 - 4 years.

Need tix for my upcoming trip and have been holding out to make room on my cc.
Have had ten day non expiring tix in the past and it was worth it, in today's set up I don't think it is though unless you don't plan on going for a longgggg time.
Prices really are out of control though IMO, this will be our last trip for a really long time as it's just not worth it when compared to the many other great vacations you can do for half the price.
Add the fact that fp+ makes me stand in line much more and the lack of new attractions that interest me, I just can't justify it much

Years ago Disney was selling 10 day PH non expiring ticket with 10 free waterparks. We could get MANY trips out of these tickets. This option was best for us as we change things up every trip and do different things.

Does anyone know exactly when they will be raised in Feb? Is it usually announced first or do they just do it?

Thanks.

Disney tries for the sneak attack on us with price hikes, but word leaks out through CMs (or contractors) who are involved in the process. We typically get hard evidence of the price changes 1 or 2 days before they occur. What we have now was most likely released by someone printing up material such as new signs for the booths or fliers, or perhaps on the software development side.
