Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

We arrive Saturday!

I'm on hold with in-house reservations. The Guest Services operator just told me that Swan renovations are complete. Dolphin renovations are on-hold until May. When I asked if some rooms were finished, she said, "Yes. We have 183 rooms complete."

I see traditional rooms that look like the old photos and deluxe rooms that have pictures to match the Swan on the Dolphin reservations page. Fingers crossed we get something updated.

ETA: The reservations desk says the higher floors are completed. A guaranteed renovated room would be $40 per night additional over our convention rate.

Bob & I will be there on March 31st. Bob's twin brother & sister-in-law are joining us. They came with us in 2012 and had such a good time they wanted to come to WDW again! :) Of course, Peter Noone will be at Epcot. That's the real reason for scheduling my trip at this time! :teeth:

Checked out of the Swan and into BCV yesterday. BCV is currently undergoing room refurbs, and we are in an older studio. Realizing that this is a little unfair because the Swan was just renovated, and this is an unrenovated studio, there is simply no comparison between the wonderful room at the Swan and this studio. This isn't even that beat up for an old room, but the Swan room was so much nicer. The bathroom here is so dark and unappealing. I hadn't stayed at BC in a number of years, and was looking forward to SAB pool, but candidly, both my adult son and I like the Grotto pool more at this point in time. Cabana pool bar is so much better than Hurricane Hannahs. The fold-out sofa is pretty awful, which is kind of a surprise. I've slept on one at BWV a couple of years ago, and it was fine. Oh well. I guess my conversion to the S/D is complete...I wish I was back at the Swan.

The Swan is a great place.

does the Swan have irons/ironing boards available? Looking forward to my visit this Tuesday!

I think I did see an iron and ironing board.
Yes, S/D does have irons and boards.

Isn't Swan room really nice? We stayed there during their renovation last September and thought they were great. That's the main reason we are returning to Swan this trip. We've stayed at Dolphin a few years ago and wasn't that thrilled. They actually gave me an upgrade and gave me alcove suite at the time but it wasn't anything that great. However, we like Swan and it's relatively small size of it also. I also like the Cabana better than Hurricane Hannah's. It has more sophisticated feeling to it. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the trip. Can't wait till Thursday.

I am not sure if it has been mentioned but SPG just did their annual raise the rates and lower the points value announcement. In all over 100 SPG properties went up a classification requiring more points than last year.

The SWAN has increased a Category to Category 5 which requires 12,000 SPG points per night
The DOLPHIN stayed a Category 4 property requiring 10,000 points a night.

The change started in March.

With the upcoming SPG / Marriott merger - Marriott buys a hotel, there is no telling what this property will be in the future.

Most people believe that SPG points will transfer to Marriott Rewards programs at a rate of 5 or 6 to 1.
Marriott will probably classify the properties as a 6 which will be 60,000 MRP per night.

Remember that Marriott points are worth about 5.5 SPG points thus the change when the Marriott buyout is finished.
Now if we could just find out what they are going to do with my Lifetime Platinum Status.

I THOUGHT the Dolphin slept 5 if you paid the added fee for a roll-away. ?? I can't seem to be able to check prices (this is on the Dolphin official website) for our family of 5 (one under 17, the rest adults) in one room. I get a message saying something like "no availability for you party size". Now, a few months ago I COULD. Has there been a change? I thought there was a recent change in ownership. Could this be the reason?
