Seriously this is the third year in a row the Railroad has been closed for rehab in October. Me and my husband go the same time every year and have been so excited to not see a rehab for it.....until yesterday. Does anyone know if they will be continuing the same schedule for rehab every year? We miss the relaxing ride on the Railroad around the park and want to know if we should change our vacation date next year?

going October 2016 and this is one of our favorite ways to relax at MK. Hope it isn't an annual thing...

Darn! I also love riding around on the WDW Railroad and am going in October. Thanks for the heads up so that I won't be disappointed when I get there.

I just saw this!! I was really looking forward to taking our 1-year old on the train. We leave on 11/7 but wasn't planning on hitting MK on 11/6 or 11/7.... may have to change our schedule around...

What a slap in the face this is! Third Oct trip in a row with no RR, why can't they stagger the rehabs and what the H-E double hockey sticks is wrong with this thing that it needs this much maintenance? Seems it will re-open on our last day and MK is recommended by EASYWDW so if we really want to we can ride. Anyone speculate on the chances of an early completion?

It looks like the refurbishment is from 9/28-11/5 so hopefully you should be okay. They usually run the rope drop show as well during refurbishment the characters just don't get on the train like usual.

I'd like to get a second opinion on this!!! I did call Disney because we too have a trip to Disney scheduled for early October, and they said they DO NOT have plans to rehab the railroad this year. And, when you check the schedule for the park attractions in October, unlike POTC, it does not say "pardon us...". Where is this information coming from???

I provided you with a link on another thread where you posted this question, you must not have seen the reply. Here are the refurb schedules:

Well isn't that stinky!!!! Kind of sad about this because not only is my favorite MK restaurant down for refurbishment (LTT), now you are all telling me that one of our favorite relaxing rides will be down too while we are there in October. We love riding around the train to relax and rest our footsies. Just as long as they keep TTA open, I won't go into a complete meltdown :goodvibes.

I also book my Disney vacations through Dreams Unlimited Travel and they will send you rehabs going on during your trip.:thumbsup2

Yes, but where do these sites get this info, if calling Disney directly seems to say that there is no refurb this year?

We've missed it on two trips too, I was so excited for this trip to finally experience it. It does nope one day before we will be in MK but it's a super high crowd day and we didn't man on it. Time to change thigns up I really don't want to miss it. I keep reminding myself, it could be a lot worse!

I haven't a clue where the sites get their info, but I do know that I have "called Disney directly" and gotten misinformation by (well meaning) CM many times. Also, I do not know where the PP called. Sometimes aren't calls not even handled by the staff on property and sent to call centers?

I have gone down the last two Octobers in a row, and the railroad has been closed for refurb, so I would tend to believe it will be closed this year since it is on the list again. I was happy when I moved my trip to later this year, so I can ride it, as it has some special memories for me.

While I understand your frustration, the people who write the refurb lists on those sites are WAY more accurate than any Disney CM. On our last trip the Disney CM vehemently denied that the Wilderness Lodge pool would be closed on our trip even though I had seen it on a refurb list long before calling. The CM told me that because it wasn't on her list, "Those people" were wrong. Eventually the WL pool went down for rehab and was indeed closed during our trip. Don't ever trust a phone CM!!! I could tell you multiple things they have told me that were no where near true. (No, VWL studios do not sleep five even after the refurb; Caribbean Beach is made of single story bungalows over the water so there are no stairs to climb and even if there were Disney has elevators at every resort; etc.)

If we want to see it this year, according to the schedule above, we'll need to see it on our arrival day (we're in Epcot but could hop later to MK I suppose), or our first full day (which was going to be a water park day). Hmm....

The ride itself doesn't do a whole lot for us, but it does have some special memories...
The first time visiting MK, got there early, and had no idea about the park opening show. Wow, talk about magic. That was a very special moment for us, that whole show and seeing all those characters roll up in the train!:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

...also did the "Magic Behind the Steam Trains" tour with my FIL in 2011. Was a great time entering the park before any guest (including those with early ADR's), being the very first to ride that day, and also seeing the turn station and all the behind the scenes operations stuff... very cool.

Big train fan here too! My 40th bday gift to myself will be the steam tour.
If I remember correctly at least the last rehab had to do with replacing the track/bridges not the actual trains themselves. Now are the trains due for rehab? It seems long to be out of service again or is there more track work? Does this have to do with whatever they are going to do with the arcade in Tomorrowland? That was such a cool viewing spot.

So why are some sites saying it is closed until 11/20 and some say 11/5? I arrive on 11/5, so of course I got really excited when I see that allears has it listed with the 11/5 date and wdwinfo also has it listed closed until 11/5. Wdwmagic and Touring Plans both have it listed as closed until 11/20. So I am confused and don't want to get too excited yet. Last year it reopened a few days before we arrived so it worked out great. I love the WDW Railroad!

The refurb dates have shifted. The train will now be open for the beginning of October, but go further into Nov with the closure.

They still have the steam train tour bookable for second week of November so I don't think they've shifted the rehab. If they were really changing the dates I would think that would be changed rather quickly (to avoid unhappy guests who've booked and have to change their plans) but I suppose that could be an oversight.
