Walt Disney earnings down

I just read that Disney stock prices went tumbling down when earnings were leaked,,Disney earnings are down $60 million in the fourth quarter from last year.....You'd think the way they keep raising prices on everything from tickets to food that they would be up instead of down...

If you looked at the published earnings statement you can see where the losses are. We only get I think .43 cents a share opposed to I think .48 last time. With some write offs and poor performance in other areas, we lose.

The Theme Parks area small division of Disney. Just wait an see what Winnie the Pooh or Tangle nets and you will see why the gate tickets price doesn't contribute too much to the bottom line.

You need yo look at the big picture. Because of a fluky accounting anomaly the 4 th quarter this year was one week short compared to last year. So when you look at it, Disney is doing pretty well. And 1 st quarter bookings are up over last year. Not too bad.

I found that a pretty interesting point since it greatly applies on the Disboards.
There was a lot of noise here, more on the WDW side, when Iger at the annual meeting mentioned ending discounting. In WDW people are all over free dining plans and resort room discounts and this summer/fall they cut the availability of those back. In this announcement they said WDW was booking at 84%, 85% is considered the industry max and I know a few years ago Disney could achieve it and it looks like they are again.
I hope if the parks get more profitable because of the profits gained from cutting the discounts that Disney will be happier to plow some back into the parks.
