I have long admired Walt Disney for his vision. I would be very interested in reading a book about his life. I was wondering which one would be good to read. I do not want to read one that paints him as an evil genius;)

Try _Walt Disney : An American Original_ by Bob Thomas easily available at most bookstores.

I second Sarangel's suggestion. This would be the best choice for learning about his life.

Another good one is "Inside the Dream: The Personal Story of Walt Disney" by Richard and Katerhine Greene. It contains many personal stories and quotes by people who knew Walt (including his kids and grandkids). Also has more pictures.

You might also want to see the DVD/Video "The Man Behind the Myth" which was done by Diane Disney Miller's family. It's available at WDW and through WDW Merchandise phone order.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I have the ''Walt: The Man Behind the Myth'' DVD and I absolutely love it. I'm looking into getting a soft covered book so I can read it on the subway. The book "Walt Disney : An American Original" by Bob Thomas looks great.

Along the same line of thought, I've always wondered if there is a book on the history of Walt Disney World, not so much Disneyland or Walt himself. I'm looking for a book covering the history of the place, the ideas behind rides, the building of the parks, utilidors, etc. Is there such a thing?

The best book for WDW history is "Since the World Began : Walt Disney World The First 25 Years" It is a great book that goes through the planning, each theme park and each resort. It only has Animal Kingdom plans and drawings since the park wasn't open yet when the book was published.

I am just finishing (for the 2nd time) "Disney's World" by Leonard Mosley. Amazon Link

It is not an "authorized" biography, and does paint Walt as a human being, flawed and failed like anyone, but it is respectful of his genius, and the love that others had for him.
