Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler.

Anyone read it yet? What did you think?

Just started it...so far, it's very well written and hard to put down.

I read it and really enjoyed it. It is well written and thoroughly researched. After reading that book I can see how Walt's influence continues at the parks. I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Disney and/or cultural history.

I'm reading it and also started a thread about it a couple of weeks ago. It's a good book, but I'm still only up to Snow White, LOL. Some nights I can only get through a page or two before I fall asleep.

This was the 1st book I'd checked out in over a year.
I usually just purchase books at Borders.

Well, I started out reading faithfully the first few nights, then forgot about it.

An automated message from the library called yesterday, saying my book is overdue & they want it back.
I think I'm just going to buy it from Borders.

Would chesty kind of been the 'smurfette' of the group then?

I only got into the first chapter of the book and my life was turned upside down. I'm hoping to pick it up and finish it before my november trip. So far what I had read I really enjoyed it.

my DS only has three things on his birthday list this year.

The Neil Gabler book mentioned, this book "The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation" and Simpsons Season 9.


I have a couple of questions. Is the Neil Gabler book ok for teen and is The Illusion of Life book really worth it for a would be animator/film student?

I was planning to get the Gabler book for my godson's HS graduation this year, he's also starting college for animation in the fall, so I'd say yes.

I haven't heard of the Illusion of Life book, but maybe I'll look into it, too - thanks. I did buy one book for him for Christmas (can't recall the name) it wasn't a big deal at all. I was shocked to see him reading the book for an hour in the midst of the chaos of present-opening, so I know he'll really enjoy any others as well. The Disney book I'm thinking gives a great summation of how animation got it's start, and how innovative Walt was in setting the standards in the industry.
