Walt Dated World

When I was 7 we rode the Jaws ride and since I was on the end, I nearly **** myself when that shark jumps out of the water.
Ha, I had the exact opposite reaction at age 9. I wrote a postcard to a friend from that trip saying “Jaws was a disappointment.” She later asked me why, and I remember saying the shark was little, and obviously fake, and not at all scary. 🦈

I miss the Betty White bust, because I would take a picture with it each time I visited. Otherwise, nothing specific is coming to mind but, generally speaking, I miss when EPCOT was educational and MGM/DHS was about making movies. Even as a kid, I really enjoyed the science aspect of EPCOT and learning all the behind-the-scenes stuff at MGM.

Reading @slo poll today made me think of rides that are no more at WDW. What ride/experience/attraction/whatever do you wish they would bring back? For me, I really miss Ellen's Energy Adventure and I wish they would bring back the partnership with American Express. What about you? What are you missing?

There are so many,,,the originaal Imagination, Motion, Universe of Energy, the Skyway, The Backlot tour (even before it was kept to only in the "car"), but even more than those, I miss the music. Tomorrows Child, True Colors, and so many more. Oops, add Honey I Shrunk the Audience too though I don't necessarily need/want attractions based solely on current and recent films. Most of them are not timeless. Tower of Terror. Rocl amd Rpller Coaster, Haunted Mansion (ride predated films, Pirates (again predated films) S[ace Mountain, etc. are just a few examples.

A lot of the music has been archived on YouTube. I’ve made playlists.

I just thought of another, I really loved the parade at Animal Kingdom, with the puppeteers.

For WDW, the ones that first came to mind were: Horizons, World of Motion, and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

I'm with you on those Universal rides, and would also add Kongfrontation to that list!

I distinctly remember being utterly terrified of Kongfrontation. Another one of those Universal memories from my only trip! I just remember what seemed like such an enormous head.

Kongfrontation had just closed the first time we went in 2002. 😢 Would have been right up my alley though. But at least they replaced it with Revenge of The Mummy, one of my favorite rides in Orlando

Wow, I did not realize how much I missed until I read it in black and white in front of me. Yes to Jeremy Irons, Illuminations, Maelstrom - miss them (and more!), but grateful for this walk down memory lane.

I was ok with GMR, enjoyed it as a movie buff and one of my "must-do"s from back in the day. I was very prepared to not like MMRR when I had the chance to ride it last year for the first time, but really was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it, at least certain parts of it. MMRR was redemptive enough for me, so am at peace with the change. :-)

If You Had Wings, by Eastern Airlines is my all time #1 attraction. I could have ridden it over and over and over.

EPCOT
  • British Invasion (or have I just missed them???)
  • Ellen's Energy Adventure- it was my nap ride and a great place to wait out a rainstorm.
  • Off Kilter
Hollywood Studios
  • Great Movie Ride- it needed to be updated
  • Jedi Training Academy- our girls enjoyed this while younger, but our boys missed out due to Covid/aging out.
  • Osborne Lights
  • Backlot tour- while I only partially miss this, I do think having glimpses of what goes on in a studio was neat. It just needed updating
Magic Kingdom
  • Mr. Toad- I love it at DLR, but never got to ride it at WDW.
  • Snow White Scary Adventure- I actually preferred this over 7D Mine Train.
  • Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
  • Spectromagic
Disney Springs
  • The Adventurer's Club- just needs to be moved to the MK!

I'm showing up late to the party and haven't read all the replies.

What I miss is the old MGM Studios/Hollywood Studios.
I miss the Backlot Tour
I miss the Lights, Motors, Action! show
I miss The Osborne Spectacle of Lights
I miss the building fronts and the streets
I miss The Great Movie Ride (even thought I love M&MRR)
I miss it all.

I understand that change is important, but I never understood why WDW got away from the whole theme of the park. They could have changed the Backlot Tour to have different things. They could have changed the Stunt Show to a different stunt show. The Great Movie Ride could have changed to show different movies.

I love HS - it's a lot of fun, but it's not about movie making anymore - those days are very sadly long gone. I wish my DD20 could remember what it was like back in the day. She was there as a small child, she sees the pictures, but she doesn't remember much of it at all.

Horizons
World of Motion
The Making of Me
Cranium Command
the original Journey into Imagination
Delta Dreamflight
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
The Adventurer's Club/Pleasure Island

Also always enjoyed Snow White's Scary Adventure, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea., the Skyway, Maelstrom, The Great Movie Ride...

And a shout-out for Skippy from ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter

Yes Yes and Yes to those who said Pleasure Island.
Now that my DD20 will be turning 21 soon, I always tell her how I wish Pleasure Island was still open so her and I could go together - we would have a blast there!!! That place was AWESOME!!!

I first learned to drink scotch at the jazz club, I made out with a girl to The Bad Touch (Eiffel 65 Mix) in front of the stage where they had the new years eve, I LOVED the Adventurer's club, Mannequins Dance was a little tame for me. I think there was also a cigar bar there? I remember having some stogies in WDW just can't remember if at PI.

I think City Walk is supposed to be similar but it doesn't have the same vibe. Plus, Jessica Rabbit was on the Pleasure Island sign, and I LOVE Jessica Rabbit.
