Walmart MoneyCard?

I just got a Walmart money card in the mail, out of the blue. It has my name embossed on it and everything. I thought maybe someone had sent me a gift card, so I called the number - they had my birthdate to activate it, and there's a balance of $26 dollars on it.

I've probably shopped at Walmart 5 times in my entire life, most recently last Christmas when buying charity Christmas gifts and they had good deals on kid's coats.

There's no letter or anything that it's a refund for anything. Anyone have any idea?

What do you mean "they had [your] birthdate to activate it?" If you had to provide your birthdate over the phone .... eeeek. That sounds like an identity theft scam.

You really should have done an internet search on the telephone number instead of calling, just to make sure it really went to Walmart.

Have you entered any contests or done mystery shopper/online surveys lately? $26 is an odd amount unless it was some sort of a refund.

You need to give your SS# to get one of those cards. They are pre-paid and they don't use it for a credit check they use it for identity verification. Someone had to fill something out with your info if your name is on it. I would ask around to see if someone decided to send you one as a gift but forgot to tell you.
