Walmart double charging!

I belong to Shoppershotline. I have been scanning for several years now and don't mind it at all. I've earned about 5 -$25 debit cards in that time - just for scanning what I buy. There's no cost. The scanner I have connects to your land line phone but doesn't interfere with it at all. It just transmits the info you scan. Most stores don't require putting in the price. WalMart and Sam's Club are the only two that I recall having to enter each price. I don't mind scanning what I buy since there's free money for doing so. You get points each time you scan. And you earn the points for each session (time) you scan not by what dollar amount you spend. They want to know where you shop and what you are purchasing, not how much you are spending. The points you earn do not have to do with the dollar amount - just the frequency of your shopping habits. I use my "free" money to buy things like paint for the house/ redecorating , etc. It's not bad at all.

Walmart has many issues, those that have been stated above, are but a few of them. I am always learning something new, about that company, and as it relates directly to the corporation, it is never good.
The area that I live in Ca. has Comcast t.v. cable, and on demand currently is airing a documentary regarding said company. It was produced in 2005, but the information is eye opening all the same, for when I believe that I have heard and have seen it all, as it applies to that companies procedures and policies, both written and hidden,I learn something new.
I have learned through several reports on t.v. regarding wm, and through other media avenues as well. I do not solely rely upon television of course, for information. Please look for that documentary on demand, or the like on your cable station, these various documentaries may very well be available as well on dvd, or vhs, in stores and in local libraries.
I do not shop at wm, I shop at Target. If wm was the only store in the world where one could buy milk and clothes, I would buy a cow, and learn to sew! and I ain't whistlin no dixie with those sentiments either!
I am never a fan of any company, that has tremendous grievances that are valid, held against it.
Before anyone decides to tell me to go to hell, keep in mind that I am not telling anyone, not to shop there, but rather, some of the reasons, why I never will,no matter how tempting those Halloween sales may be, either!
The Walton family is the richest family in the world, but how are their hard working, loyal workers doing in this country and in China? I know the answers! how about you?

I am not going to berate you - you make the choices you feel are responsible and that should be commended.

I'm just not so sure that Target (or any mass retailer for that matter) is a whole lot better. :confused3

Now, to get back on topic - I did the HomeScan thing for awhile and it got to be SO tiresome. My local stores weren't in their database either, so I was always having to hand-enter numbers. And when I quit, they got pretty nasty. I never even redeemed a reward because it was such a pain.

Hopefully they have improved it - I participated about 3 or 4 years ago.

Thought this sounds like a decent way to make a little extra money; however, the Shoppershotline requires a landline. Do you need a landline analog phone line for the AC Nielsen Home Scan? I searched the website but could not find the requirements.

I've heard of this documentary, but haven't seen it. However, since you live in CA, there are a lot of stores to choose from, in in some of the "less populated" areas. Not so in many rural areas. The day the first Wal-Mart opened in our town, our K-Mart closed. A few years later, when they built a new Wal-Mart with groceries, two local grocery stores closed. The local fabric/craft stores are gone. We have one other grocery store, the super Wal-Mart and convenience stores for our shopping choices. The one other remaining grocery store in town is more expensive, and in general lower quality, than Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart is a mixed bad for me. It does a TON of good for my community b/c this is where Wal-Mart was started. My Dbf is interning for Wal-Mart Corporate this summer and there are always great free concerts around the shareholder meeting. They give millions to our university as well as the local performing arts center. That said, they have their problems. I think you have to accept them for they are--a mult-billion dollar corporation that is based on a concept of convience that many smaller stores simply cannot compete with. If it wasn't Wal-Mart it would be someone else. My Dbf loves working there. They have a very positive working environment. It could be a much different story for the person who stocks shelves or the cashiers. Anyways, I just felt the need to show that Wal-Mart does good things too.

Like someone else mentioned - not major company is without fault. I refuse to shop at Target as they have been asked on numerous occasions to donate to our Armed Forces overseas and decline as its against company policy. Personally - anything for our troops in harms way should be justification to change policy

As for Wal-mart - I don't mind shopping there - when I stick to my list - it's much more affordable to my wallet. I often buy other things but that is due to their marketing skills and my lack of impulse at times. As for the treatment of employees - no one is forcing them to work there. I don't normally get double scanned but their prices are often wrong - it's not always easy to off load - deal with 2 kids and watch the prices - but I caught one today and she simply fixed it with no questions asked

The Homescan scanner I had until a couple months ago was like a very old-fashioned modem, in that it had a speaker that you put up to the mouthpiece of the phone to transmit. I have no idea how it work with a cell phone, I would think your environment would have to be very quiet when transmitting to prevent outside noise from interfering. I have a cordless with a small mouthpiece microphone and would frequently have to retransmit.

I did homescan for about a year and earned enough points for a travel wine kit -- opener etc. NOT worth my time and trouble. With Homescan you shop from a merchandise catalog. There weren't any gift cards available that I was aware of.

Walmart has stopped doing the $3.00 off an item if it scans wrong! Major bummer!!!

Very seldom did I leave there without an item being scanned wrong. The cashiers always said that they were never trained for 'reason code 1' (which is the number they would use to code the override) I would ALWAYS have them call the CM over to verify and the CM knew about the code and would have to go back and check the price. They were never happy about that. They have now stopped doing it but I still almost always have at least 1 item that scans wrong. You really have to watch as your items are being scanned and get your price adjusment!! Do NOT put anymore money in their pockets!!!

Does any one have a internet site for information on the shoppers hotline or other places like it? I would be interested in doing this in my area.
THANKS!

I don't see how you can blame Walmart or any one store for a cashiers mistake??
If items scan wrong it is the store's mistake not the cashier. there are state agencies you can report the store to for this very thing. i saw it on one of the consumer reports stories on the news, it is a violation, but i forget what it is called.

Duh - I mis-read the post - sorry!

K-Mart has a HUGE problem with this also!!
Thats just the beginning with Kmart. They have a HUGE habit of clearing the last few of something out for a buck or two. They do this a LOT from Sept till Dec. Then when you return it after Christmas, its still in the register at the clearance price.
My mother bought an item once for $36 in Dec for a Christmas gift. They sold all but the last 2 or 3 for $36, and marked the last one or two down to like $8. When we took it back (it wouldn't fit) it scanned as $8. She knew exactly what had happened. That has happened several times at Kmart. Its happened a few times at other places too (INCLUDING Walmart) but it seem every time I hear someone mention it it's K mart they are referring to.
It also makes you look like a cheapskate. You buy someone a gift for say $25, they return it and get $5. You look like a cheapskate.

Our new WalMart is the same way! I don't get it. Maybe all those lanes are there for Black Friday or something? LOL. They're sure not there for normally crowded days, I know that. I was really disappointed that they put in no self checkout lanes.

As for double or overcharging, I've had the most trouble at Kmart. :headache:
I will only use self checkout lanes if shopping 3am when they are the only checkouts open!
IMHO self checkouts = less jobs.

Maybe, but at least in my area it also means fewer mistakes on my receipt and that I get out much faster. Walmart isn't the only store in this area guilty of having many checkout lanes but only two cashiers working them, and they're usually two cashiers who aren't in any hurry to move the line along.

I know, the retail industry in general is not as good nor as positive as it could be to their sales associates, cashiers and sometimes even management for that matter.
I would like to see Target help out soldiers wherever they may be, here in this country and all others as well.

I have to just chime in one more time and say that to the best of my knowledge it is the computer double ringing an item not the cashier except in one instance. And believe me I definately try to watch as closely as I can to catch it if possible since I am acutely aware of the problem and it still happens....?

As for the Homescan, I did just start at the beginning of the year, and at first I thought it was a little tedious, but now it's not such a chore. The new scanners are simple and easy. They plug in the usb on your computer and take just seconds to send in your report each week. I haven't honestly checked my points lately...you do have to shop out of an online catalog for your "rewards", and the last time I checked I could have gotten a toaster or something of that nature, but decided to wait and let them build for something better. If you go to the sight and fill out your surveys each month as well as transmit each week they seem to build up fairly quickly. I decided that I would do it for 1 year and then decide whether to continue or not...so we'll see!

If anyone is interested...https://www.homescan.com/homescan/US/EN/Login.htm

Perhaps, but it also equals fewer pricing mistakes, and fewer trips at $4 a gallon to replace crushed bread and broken eggs.
