We have 2 toys that DD does not want (Littlest Pet Shop and Snow White and 7 Dwarfs doll set). Walmart has them, but when I checked the website to see if they carried it the site said the littlest pet shop is sold on line only, and the Snow White is sold in stores, just not the store closest to us. Does that mean they will take it back w/o the receipt? Was going to return it, DD should get $80 store credit for it, and put that money towards a DS Lite.

if it is sold in store (any walmart store) they will take it back for store credit. Not sure how the online thing works but you can take it in and ask.

You need your DL for a no receipt return and I thought I heard something about them limiting no receipt returns but not sure if it was ever implemented.

Wal-Mart use to have a thing where they allowed you only 3 returns in your "life time" without a receipt. I don't know if they still do. If they do & you have used your three up, you won't even get a store credit! I know I used mine up fast one year on my DD's birthday & food.. all three within one year! Target does it 3 returns w/o rec't per year.. however, they can look up your purchase if you used your credit card or checking account.. I now do 99.9% of my shopping there since I do have a habit of misplacing rec'pts :thumbsup2

If it is an online only item & OP has not really purchased it there, they will know. They have a record of their online purchases... so I would not even do that unless it really came from that store.. online!

OP, just go to Walmart and tell the cashier that these were duplicate gifts that your DD received for Christmas and you believe they were bought at Walmart....if they do not ring up in their system then no big deal...you were mistaken and will ask the gift giver for more info so you can return at the appropriate store. This happened to me last year....as my DD received duplicate gifts...I asked my aunt where she purchased the gift and she said Walmart, but could not find the receipt. Once at Walmart the item was not recognized in their computers....so I called my aunt again and she said maybe Target...sure enough it rang up in Target's computers. Nothing is wrong with telling the truth when returning Christmas or Birthday items....they are duplicates, you think they were purchased as Walmart....and that is that.

I do not believe Walmart has a 3X "in a lifetime" return policy without a receipt (currently at least...as I have returned without a receipt many times over the past couple of years...more than 3 without receipts and have never been denied a return). I do think that after a certain $$$ threshold the computer alerts them to the fact that the customer has returned $$$ amount of items without a receipt.

This is the way it is done at my local Walmart and I don't think they even pay much attention to the alerts about how many things were returned without receipts by that customer right after Christmas. I have seen people returning computers, TVs and/or big ticket toys at the same time and without receipts (would love to know how they got duplicates of these :confused3)

I recently returned some boots that DS recieved to Walmart without a reciept. They didn't ask for any identifying information. We did get the lowest advertised price within x amount of time. IE, these boots where $7 on Black Friday and that is all we got for them even though they are normally $30 any other time.

I used to work for walmart - they no longer ask personal questions because of identity theft issues. if you return without a receipt, you get a gift card for what it is worth today, unfortunately regardless of what you paid for it - sometimes this works to your advantage cause the price goes back up after the holidays.
they also used to do the three times per calendar year, but that only worked when they were allowed to input your personal information - now without that, they have no way of tracking you. if it does not scan into the computer, the cashier might be able to tell you what other stores sell it.
just make sure your kids dont open the dvd package - then they will be forced to refuse to return it. be confident - it happens all of the time

I return things a few times a year. I have NEVER had any problems at walmart. Kmart, Taget and Toys r us can be pains but walmart is great! If it is in their system when they scan it they will issue you a gift card. I would try. Worst that will happen is they will tell you no.

The only time we have ever had a problem was when my daughter got married last summer, and she had quite a few duplicated items. Also, there were some things that she wanted to exchange for a different color (towels, sheets, etc. to match her color scheme). After a certain number of returns (exchanges), they did question her, and I had to give my drivers license instead (we explained that the returns were due to wedding showers).

I don't know whether it was because she exchanged several things (although not a large number of returns) or whether it had to do with the accumulated dollar amount in a short period of time. :confused3 I do know that I have never had a problem returning things. I don't return things very often, and I generally do have a receipt but not always.

I would just return them, tell them they were Christmas gifts, and you're trying to see if they came from Wal-Mart. That's what we did with the wedding gifts.

Toys R Us is the worst! We purchased a Wii system for Christmas. A relative out of town sent one to the kids, so we tried to return the one we bought (still in sealed box, in TRU bag with receipt). They told me that since it was over 45 days ago, they would not take it back. I offered to take a store credit (as we would buy games from them) and they refused. As such, we will not shop there any longer.

"Within 45 days" is their stated return policy. While its certainly your choice to take your business elsewhere, there's no reason to be upset that they followed the policy in place when you made the purchase.

Like I said, they use to have the policy.. I know that for a fact.. I am talking about 8-10 years ago or so...

I just checked their website and this is their policy with returns w/o a recp't now...

In the event that a customer has returned more than three items without receipts within a 45-day period, the cash register system will automatically flag the transaction, and a customer service manager or member of management must approve the return. These cash register messages will remain for six months and will disappear if there are no more returns during that time period.

So they have changed things a bit... and it would seem they should, since "lifetime" was a bit ridiculous (but yes, they did have it at one time)!

I have purchased items in the Wal-mart on Turkey Lake Rd, then went to return it at my local Wal-mart & was refused. They said they didn't have it in their system. I had my receipt too! They claimed even with the receipt, if not in "their" system, they cannot return it. She went on to say that not all Wal-marts carry the same items. It was a doggie t-shirt.. nothing "Disney oriented" that you would expect your local store not to carry.. it was something you would have thought they all carried the same... so just be careful of what you purchase and where you purchase it at. I fought with them & told them I was going to call my credit card company to reverse the charges. After that, they did give me my refund.. as they put it "manually".. they had to key everything in...

They are still tracking people here! I was just rudely informed of the policy of only returning 3 items w/o receipts at my local Wal-mart.... :rolleyes1

Can always count on the judgmental posters when you post something in order to enlighten someone else who may not know. FYI - When I bought it, I told the cashier it was a Christmas gift and what the return poilcy was. His only comment was "just make sure you hold on to your receipt." Now, it is my fault I did not read the fine print on the back of the receipt after getting that answer. However, regardless, if someone has an unopened item with a receipt (especially when people buy prior to Christmas), there is no reason not to at least give a store credit (which ensures you will still spend your money at their establishment). It made me realize that it is dumb to shop there for Christmas gifts as there is no chance to return anything, regardless of whether it is damaged or you get a second item. So, yes, I can chose to take my business elsewhere and I am glad you are OK with that.

They don't do this now. I've returned so many things to Walmart in the last year without a receipt (I would estimate around 50,) and have never had any kind of problem. You will only get store credit though, but otherwise you're fine. Also, as long as it's something that Walmart sells (online or in store) you can return it to the store without a reciept a get store credit for that amount.

You're going to never shop at Toys 'R' Us again because they enforced their return policy? Really?

Heck, just sell the extra one on Craigslist.

Too bad that store backed down. Your credit card company would not have sided with you, since you had the merchandise and simply changed your mind.

It is 3 no receipt returns PER YEAR not Lifetime, at our walmart. Must still be tracking people here too.
