Just wondering about this "tour". According to the Navigators it is on embarkation day at 2:30PM. Have any of you done this? Would you recommend it? I would imagine it would help you from getting lost later.:D

Also: DH is looking forward to one of those beer mugs. Just curious as to the cost of refills??

Thanks for your help

Looking forward to our first cruise in Sept. '05

I've never taken the walking tour of the ship, so I can't comment on that, although you could probably do it yourself on a sea day. The ship is pretty easy to navigate, and there are plenty of signs to point you along your way.

I have purchased the beer mug, though. It's a 22 oz. mug, which costs $10 (or did the last time I checked). A refill costs the same as would a standard 16 oz. draft beer (I think $3.25 for domestic, $4.00 for import). So you get 6 oz. "free" each time you refill. At those prices, I did the math once and figured that you'd have to get around 10 domestic or 8 imported beers to make the mug pay for itself. On a 7-day cruise, it will most likely be a good deal. However, the biggest drawback is that it's made of glass and is pretty heavy, so it's kind of a pain to lug around all the time. For this reason, I usually pass on it.

We have done the walking tour on one of our earlier DCL cruises and it was very informative (if it is the same one that has the CM host). The CM had tons of information on the theming, decor, music, history, artwork, etc. of the ship. I took about an hour or so and would be great for a first timer.

I have done the embarkation walking tour, and it's a great way to get oriented to the ship if you are sailing for the first time. It shows you where all the important areas are.
There is another tour that is help on the morning of Castaway Cay day on the 3-day cruise that discussed the theming. Hubby took it on our last trip. I have a little bit about that one in our latest trip report, which you can find in my blog:

That was a long one, and hubby enjoyed it, but if you haven't been to Castaway Cay before, you might not want to chew up island time.

DH got the beer mug. Every time he had it refilled, they gave him a new, clean mug. It wasn't a big deal to carry it around, and we got a great souvenier.
