Walking to Downtown Disney?

We've been reading a lot of the great info here in prep. for our July visit with Mickey. We are staying at Super 8 on Katella, and plan to visit Downtown Disney on arrival nite for supper. We are wondering about best walking route from the Super 8? Is there as way to pass through the main entry area without need for a park ticket and to DD? Do we need to walk down Katella and up Disneyland Drive to access? If so, how long would you anticipate the walk?

You through the main entry area(the Esplanade. There is a secrutity check on the east and west sides. You only use tickets to enter the parks, gates on the north DL and south DCA sides. So go in security from the west and out the east side into DTD. Very simple.

There is a big open area between California Adventure and Disneyland that anyone can access, even if they don't have park tickets. You do have to go through bag check/security first, but that isn't a big deal. Just walk through that open area to access Downtown Disney.

No idea on the amount of time it will take you, though, sorry!

Thanks for prompt replies... That's how we were hoping to access. It may take some will power not to use tickets and enter DL for a look that evening, but after a long day of travel, we'll be tired - try and rest up and hit the parks bright in the a.m.

As for distance, we have a fair idea of how far from the hotel to gate from other threads so Downtown Disney should not be much further.
