Walking times and "too spread out"..

I have read a lot about how "spread out" the moderate resorts are and how the Value resorts are a "long walk" from the Bus areas. But I have also read about how long the hallways are at the AKL/WL and Boardwalk. At most of the Deluxes you have elevators to contend with and mulitple floors with long indoor hallways. So I guess my thought is...don't they all pretty much even out in the long run?
We have only stayed at what is not Port Orleans Riverside and we were in Building 14 and Building 27....we walked out of room and were at the bus stop withing 3 to 5 minutes.
So for those who have stayed at all 3 "types" of resorts do you find there is an advantage really in walk times?

I'd say that yes, there's a difference. I think the values and moderates are fairly close in terms of walking time, but there's a big difference between those two and deluxe resorts, IMO. And, even if you are dealing with a long hallway walk and elevator, you are at least still inside, which makes a difference when it's really hot.

I agree! It really depends a lot on your room location. We have stayed at CBR and were just footsteps away from the food court, the pool and the bus at the Martinique and Trinidad bldgs. On another trip at the Yacht Club, it was closer for us to get our a.m. coffee from the Dolphin.

We have stayed at all the moderates (some several times), and like them all. The only one that we have an issue with as far as sprawl is CBR. We were in an area so far removed from the center of the resort, we literally had to take the car to get a soft drink or cup of coffee. There is an internal bus that runs around the resort (we called it an infernal bus) but it takes forever.

CBR is one of the older resorts, and I think Disney learned some lessons about resort layout as they built the newer ones!

Let's see...at AllStarMusic, we stayed in Jazz bldg, had a 4 minute walk to the food court/buses. At POR, we stayed in bldg. 35 (if I remember correctly) and it was a 3 minute walk to the 'nearest' bus stop and a 6-7 minute walk to food court. When we stayed in Magnolia Terrace at POR it was a 5 minute walk to the food court/bus stop area. At the Polynesian, from Tokelau it was about a 5 minute walk to the monorail, 3 minute walk to the bus stop, and a 10 minute walk to TTC. At Contemporary it was an 8 minute walk to MK from our North garden wing room. About 2 minutes to the bus stop. At BWV, well we did have the long hallway issue. Our first room was just past the elevators, so it took about 7 minutes to get to the bus stop. From our last room, over the quiet pool, it took about 10 minutes to get to the bus stop...we were 3 doors from the end of the bldg. But, we could use the stairs to get to MGM more quickly.

I really think that all the talk of which resort to stay at based on proximity to food courts and bus stops is a little over the top. After all, we walk all over the parks, all day long. What's another 10 minutes? I think the resorts more or less come out even in the long run. Of course, we have been pretty lucky in bldg assignment so far when staying non-DVC. We haven't been in one of the outermost areas. So, maybe if I might change my outlook given other experiences.

I too do not mind walking, if I did I would vacation somewhere else. I think now that the moderates have refrigerators and coffee makers this should become less of an issue. Seems to me there will be less need for refillable mugs since you can have drinks in the refrigerator and coffee in your room. The walk to the food court will be less of an issue.

I think it's a psychological different. Most people feel the CB is speread out, but I think it's a rather pleasant walk, not long at all, from the farthest back building to the food court. I feel that the long, indoor walks are HORRIBLE in comparison. Perhaps it is b/c I love walking outside regardless of whether its raining, snowing, or 100 degrees out. (I'm from the snow belt what can I say?) I'd much rather take the 10 minute walk at the CB than the same walk indoors at the Poly or at the other deluxes. Think about being outside at Disney, it's magical! Being inside is nothing but long boring corridors and hotel room doors. So yes, I think they even out in the long run.

Over the top? I think it is part of an informed resort choice. Yes, we walk all over the parks, but when we get home, our feet hurt!! To me, a ten minute walk to get a coke is not something I want, and it plays a major factor in my choice of resorts. I think it is a very legitimate question, and not over the top in the least.
