Walking questions for a 10 night reservation

I'm planning a 10 night stay at Aulani and there is a small window of time when my travel party is free to travel which makes it more difficult to plan. I am used to traveling whenever there is availability, never walked a reservation and have never had the pressure of securing certain dates. This leaves me with the following questions.
Do I book 7 nights ahead of my booking window and walk the reservation to my desired check in date then add the additional 3 nights?
Do I book 7 nights ahead of my booking window and add the additional 3 nights then modify the reservation to my desired check-in date?
Can you walk a reservation of more than 7 nights?
**I am not traveling during peak season but it is a Holiday weekend with me desired check out date on Sunday.

You can only hold 7 nights at one time from the 11 month window, So, if you are walking it, 7 nights is really all you need to do to start.

Once you get to the real check in date, then you can add the extra nights to get it to 10.

Are you talking about booking right at the 11-month window? If so, and in considering whether you even need to walk, be aware that island garden, poolside garden, and ocean view rooms (in all sizes) have always been open and easy to reserve right at 11-months out year round. Standard view GVs are next to impossible to reserve (or walk) -- they fill instantly year round right at 8 a.m. at 11-months out. The DVC hotel rooms and standard studios (and 2BR lockoffs) sometimes, but not often, disappear right at 11-months out.

If you intend to use the 7-month window, then trying to walk can itself easily result in failure since Aulani owners can cut your walk off at any time by reserving time before 7-months out for dates you need to walk through or the ultimate dates you desire. Also, it will be difficult to impossible to walk for standard view since it usually fills before 7-months out.

You mention not traveling during a peak season but state it is a Holiday weekend. Ocean view rooms are usually open at 7-months out except for Aulani's true peak seasons, which are Dec 23 to Jan 2, June 7 through July 5, and time during Thanksgiving week, when they can fill for multiple days in a week before 7-months out. Island garden and poolside garden view also fill for most days before 7-months out during those peak seasons, and sometimes for Holiday weekends outside of those peak seasons.
