Walking pain?

I've been doing the WATP 2 mile tapes for a couple of months now and really love them. Yesterday I walked outdoors for the first time and did a mile. Today I did two miles. It really wasn't a struggle, but my shins hurt. Do you think this will go away as I get used to outdoor walking?
Thanks in advance.

I've been doing some research on shin splints (mine hurt, too). I've read that, hopefully, the pain will subside as we strengthen the muscles. I think that you can heat/ice them for the pain. Apparently taping the shins can give the support, too. Unfortunately, the only tape I have is book tape-stronger than duct tape, really would hurt to pull it off! Two miles today? Awesome! Congratulations. OK. I'm off to do mine! I gotta keep up with the kid sister! lol

Are you stretching before and after you walk?? That should help!

Yep, shin splints really hurt! Stretching does a great deal to prevent them for me. I'll even stop & stretch during a walk if I need to. Also be sure you're wearing good quality walking sneakers. I'm finding that as I am starting to get into better shape that I'm having far less of a problem with this.

Shin splints do burn...but keep walking though it. Take some Advil an hour or so before you walk. And I found that soaking in a tub helps relieve some pain. But it Will Go Away!!!

Remember...NO PAIN NO GAIN...thats how you know its working!!!

Keep up the Hard work!!

This is very common for walkers new to pavement (hard surface) walking. As others mentioned, it will subside. Your legs are going through adjustments to the new walking surface. Warm up before you walk, and make sure to stretch after walking, and this should help. Also, Advil, as had been suggested or a good soak in the tub will help. You should be past this within a week of regular outdoors walking. If you change your walking pattern, such as adding hills, you may expect a short return of shin splints until your legs adjust to the new terrain.

Sending some pixie dust to help that pain go away soon. Walking outside is so much fun (and very relaxing, for me!) Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
