I know this must be in here somewhere but it's easier to ask: how long a walk is it from the MK to the Contemporary? Is it more convenient than taking the monorail at the end of the day or vice versa?

We're staying at Universal and taking a limo for a one day trip to the MK and the limo company said they prefer to drop / pick up at the Contemporary. I'm not sure if we'd be up for a long hike after all day in the park.

I think we'll take the monorail over so we can stop at the Poly & GF and check out the resort Christmas decorations (going in December).

5-7 minutes, tops. I have made the trip many times and it is a very easy walk. You can also take the resort monorail to CR and then take the escalators down to ground level.

It's 4/10th's of a mile, sidewalk all the way. You do cross a street, but there is a crosswalk.

I found the walk takes about 8 - 10 minutes and here is an overhead picture of what it looks like.

As for using the Resort Monorail or the walkway when going there, you can not go wrong with either one. The Resort Monorail ride should be no more then one minute since the Contemporary is the next stop when leaving the Magic Kingdom, however you will have to wait for one to arrive at the station if it's not already there.

an older CM and I left the exact same point at the same time. He took a leisurely walk to CR, while I had to take the monorail. We were both going to the CR boat dock to go on the blue route. There was a monorail in the station, but I was not able to make it(and I get to go up the exit). Therefore I had to wait for the next one.

he beat me to the dock. The walk is really not far at all and at night, it'll be a piece of cake especially in Dec. Think about this...one walk around world showcase is 1.1 miles. You could thereore make a point that walking from canada to france is about .4 miles. It's really not far for the time you save.

Just a note on this picture. If you are on the buses, you have to walk "toward" the Magic Kingdom, then U-turn and go back the other way along the sidewalk.
