We are heading to the World in just over a week :goodvibes and during our stay we are hoping to see Illuminations at 9:00 and then make our way over to the Studios for the 2nd showing of Fantasmic (@ 10:30). I guess I have two questions:

1) How long will it take us to walk from the International Gateway at Epcot to the Studios? I prefer to walk than to take a boat.....

2) Is this plan even possible?

Thanks!

I have done it! It isn't too far. You just walk from Epcot, past the BC and YC over a bridge past the BW and you're there. We strolled (read that as took our sweet old time), and it took us about 10 minutes, maybe 15. It is a very nice walk and it seemed faster than the boat. It makes stops at all of the hotels before it goes to MGM.

To answer your other question, I don't know if it is possible to go from Illuminations to Fantasmic. Sorry. Have fun! :)

I would say 30 minutes or more to walk.

yes, it's possible. and yes, it's possible to do both Illuminations and Fantasmic in the same night (as long as you have park hopper tickets)

Yes, you can walk over Not sure how long, we never take the boat to or from MGM, enjoy the walk too much.

It took us 15 mins from the BW, so I think you will make it with no problem.

I definitely wouldn't make the walk between both parks during the day this time of the year, way too hot, at night maybe but trust me don't do it when the sun is out!! Also whoever said the walk between both parks is 10-15 minutes is wrong, it's definitely at least close to 30 minutes. From Epcot to the Boardwalk is not far at all, like 5-10 minutes, but from the Boardwalk to MGM it's like 20-25.

I have never walked that, :faint: (old guy here), but I would say to go from Int'l Gateway (closest place in Epcot to being out and still seeing Illuminations) and walking to MGM has to be every bit of 30 minutes.

Part of it depends on whether there are any little legs trying to make that trip, or any strollers. I remember one night walking from MGM to Epcot. I left MGM at 7:44 and at 8:10 I was having my bag checked at IG. 26 minutes, I was solo, walked steadily but not very fast, and didn't cut through BWV pool area, as I would now. But someone "less mature" (ahem, younger) could no doubt make better time.

Very easy to do! Don't waste time with the boats.

We once walked, stopped for ice cream at the Boardwalk, and STILL beat the boat that we would have taken!

That's the jist of it...but the BC/YC was is the long way. :)

Go out the IG, past the ESPN Club, at the middle of the Boardwalk cut through the pool area to the MGM walkway and you'll be there in no time.

::yes:: :thumbsup2

and this will still take AT LEAST 20 minutes.

The boat trip (including all three interim stops at resorts) takes 30 minutes (not a guess, I have timed it a dozen times, at least, and the boats have "governed" engines.)

The walk can take just about the same, if you have an average pace.
(15 minutes? Not unless you're an athlete pouring on the speed.)

The DIFFERENCE can come into play if you "just MISS" a boat (or its too full for you to board).
If you start walking at that time, you will likely make a faster trip than if you WAITED for the next boat to arrive, un-load, load new passengers, and THEN begin its trip.

If you say you stopped for ice cream and beat the boat... its quite possible.

I usually pay very close attention to timing.
I have a wrist stopwatch that I use in my job... so I'm constantly timing the modes of travel (bus rides, as well as boats and monorails) and even the time it takes for a ride vehicle to make its "loop."

I justed wanted to confirm what other have posted - it is not a 10-15 walk. It takes a good 30-35 minutes. I know because I learned the hard way. DH, DD & I decided to walk from MGM to EPCOT during our last trip and I was like "oh, it only takes about 10 minutes". After about 20 minutes DH asked "do you know where you are going?". We stopped and asked a lifeguard that happened to by riding by on her bike and she assured us we were headed in the right direction but still had about 15 minutes left to go.

This may help answer the questions. I took the Google Maps satellite image of the parks, and overlayed the shortest path (cutting through BW) to get to the Studios. As you can see, distance-wise it's probably comparable to walking from the turnstiles at Epcot to the back of World Showcase, give or take. When you look at it on the map, it does look like a good walk!

How do you find a satellite map please - too cool.

Dan, as tall as you are your stride would take me 3-4 steps to match so even though you might be a tiny bit more mature (let me think on that choice of words) Ok, make that a tad bit OLDER than some, you could still get there faster than many. :rotfl2:

As far as answering often asked questions goes - I work with small children and I love the questions. It is in the sharing of knowledge and getting to know people that I derive pleasure. If I read a post and do not want to deal with the subject I go on to something else. It is the 'mature' thing to do. :thumbsup2 The question might be the same one but the person asking is not and it is interesting to meet new people, especially most of the people on the DIS. :grouphug:
