Walking from Doubletree

Can you actually walk from the Doubletree at the Universal entrance to Universal Theme Park safely? Google says it's a three minute walk, but I'm skeptical.

Yes. There is a sidewalk the entire route. If you switch to Earth view on Google Maps or Bird's Eye on Bing Maps, you can see the sidewalk. The biggest issue is crossing Kirkman Rd, which is the main north/south road that sits between the hotel and Universal property. But, there's a crosswalk and "walk" signal so it's not really an issue.

I used to live right down the street, about two minutes past the DoubleTree off of Kirkman Rd. I used to see people crossing the road all the time. It won't be a problem.

I stayed there for a Universal trip once with my DW. We walked to Universal and writerguyfl is right about the busy street you have to cross, but it was no problem. There were many folks from the hotel doing the same thing.

Takes about 15 minutes to walk to entrance to Citywalk from Doubletree Suites.

3 minutes will be to the crossing. It's a safe enough road if you cross when you're supposed to......
