Walking from Contemporary to MK?

I have read several times about guest being able to walk from the Contemporary Resort to the MK. However, when I look at the WDW map it looks too far to walk to the front entrace of MK. The park map for MK only shows the front entrance. So how can it be such a short walk? Going to WDW for the first time Dec. 19th so I can only judge by the look of the maps.

My daughter and I were there in May and we walked several time to from the Contemporary to MK. It took 10 minutes at the most. A nice walk. I would go out the door leading to the buses and there is a walkway. If you have any questions ask a CM that is out there.

We love walking from the CR to the MK and always take pictures of the topiary figures en route. In our experience it's about 5 minutes from the exit near the bus lines (and the Mickey-Stowkowski statue in the lobby) to the turnstiles. This is a major advantage of staying at the CR.

On our last trip, we stayed at the WL and took the smaller (blue flag) launch from the WL to the CR, walked through the Contemporary, and on to the MK. Took a bit less than 20 minutes, but we were drinking in the magic all the way and loved it!

I've made the walk, too, with a 3-year-old in a stroller, and it took 10 minutes, 15 tops. Since you'll be going in December, the weather should be nice making it for a more pleasant experience (I did it in summer heat). I will say this: walking from the Contemporary to the MK is far, far better than taking the monorail. The MK is the LAST stop when taking the monorail from the Contemporary, stopping at the TTC, Poly and GF before getting to the MK. During the holiday season, I could see it easily taking you a half hour to get to the MK via monorail. The walk will be much faster, and significantly less stressful (unless, of course, you're a monorail junkie and love the ride no matter how long or crowded, which some people do).

On the return trip from the MK, the resort monorail will stop at the Contemporary FIRST, so if your feet are tired, take the monorail back (unless you're leaving right after the fireworks or parade and the lines for the monorail get backed up).

The first day we did the walk, we were thinking it wasn't really that short of a walk. However, by the second day we were thrilled with the walk. And after the fireworks and all the poor soles that were getting in line for the busses, boats, and monorail, we were jumping for joy and high fiving for the walk. In perspective to all the walking you will be doing, its a very short walk.

I also thought it looked too far to walk. My husb and I tried it out in Nov though, and it took us less than 10 mins.

As other posters have said the walk is nothing compared to what you'll do the rest of the day in the park(s). Plus, during your walk from CR to MK you can look at the engraved bricks comprising the "walk around the world" and watch for ones from your hometown. Just don't step on mine! LOL

Disney Bill,
I always look for engraved bricks from my hometown and state when walking them at WDW. I would have checked for yours too, had I known it was between the MK and CR! That might be a fun new thread to start.

Thank you for the wonderful responses. I was looking at the Transportation Guide Map and it makes the CR look too far. So, there is only one entrance in and out of MK, and its an easy walk from CR.

It took us 7 minutes from the NGW at the CR to the gate at MK. That is with 2 kids and pausing to read the bricks. We loved being able to walk.

The walk is a pleasure, especially if you stay until closing.

If you are staying at the WL the walk to the Contemporary and then the blue flag launch to the lodge is a hidden treasure.....my wife and my two kids (5 & 6) went home that way every nite at park closing........we'd walk to contemporary, stop and have a drink maybe play a game and then catch the launch to WL........no lines, no hassles.....very relaxing way to travel after being at parks all day........also allows you to stay till "bitter" end at parks and not have to worry about transportation (boat/busses) back to WL...........
