How many of you walk for exercise and if so, what tips can you share? I try to walk between 12 and 15 miles a week. My tip would be to drink plenty of liquids, preferably water or health drinks. It's also very important to stretch following your walk. :)

I walk a mile a day in pe class, and sometimes I walk home from school. In the summer I try to walk 30 minutes mon-sat. I agree with the liquids, I have water with me in the summer. Don't know about where you are, but down here it gets hot fast, so walk early in the morning too.

I walk several miles around the track most nights and my tip is a little different:

FIND A FRIEND!!!

We walk and talk and it's not even exercise anymore -- it's fun!

We will vary up the speed, so sometimes we aren't too chatty, but just having a friend keeps me coming every night and keeps me from getting bored.

I've also taken my dog on brisk walks around the neighborhood, but she doesn't say much. . . :earboy2:

::yes:: I walk with my friends in pe, I walk home alone afterschool, but I walk with my uncle during the summer. :cool1:

Dana49, my GF and I walk about the same weekly distance as you. I would recommend keeping an eye on your walking shoes/sneakers and replacing them as necessary. My shoes are pretty much dead and I can feel it in my lower back. I always carry a bottle of water with me and my keychain is an aluminum kubaton - a martial arts weapon. Just for a little addd protection. You never know.

As a part of my WISH plan and goals, I walk 2.4 miles about two to three times a week. I do yoga on other days. I find that you can walk easier and quicker if you really swing your arms back and forth constantly.

I agree!! I've been walking with a friend and my feet and back were hurting. I just bought new shoes and I can tell a big difference!! Now I'm wondering, why did I wait so long to get new shoes? :teeth: :sunny:

I also enjoy talking to a friend whlie we're walking. But sometimes we slow down and then joke that our mouths got more exercise than our legs. :earboy2:

I just started my walking program. I walk between 5-7km per day. I hope to work up to 15 per day. I like to wak to music and have a great tape that I listen to that starts off with quieter music and turns into a fast paced beat.

I just ordered a pair of walking shoes from New Balance. My shoes normally last 3-6 months. I agree, keep those shoes alive.
Here's a great site for anyone interested in walking. :)

I walk for exercise but lately I've been riding my bike to mix it up. I don't usually walk with anyone else, I go pretty fast and want to go at my pace and not someone elses. I listen to talk radio. It's like walking with someone except that I don't have to talk! LOL!

I walk 6 miles almost everyday, even keep it up while staying at the resorts on vacation. I don't really like walking with others I perfer to plug in the IPOD and go.........I have several playlists that I use with music that seems to make me walk faster, I found walking with people that sometimes I was talking to much and not walking fast enough. It is also my time to reflect on the day and myself. I am fortunate that I have a trail that goes from St. Pete Fl to Tampa across the bay, where it is beautiful to watch the sun rise in the morning and the dolphins in the bay.

I walk for exercise. I used to work in the afternoons, which was good, because then I could walk in the morning, before it got too hot. Now that I work in the morning, I've resorted to "mall walking". Yikes! I didn't think I was old enough to be a mall walker! But I do it for my weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and bone strength. I pass the time by planning out my next WDW trip!

Everyone keep up the good work! :)
