going to Disney in Jan and my brother & his family are staying at Port Orleans. I was wondering if the THV were walking distance?

Technically you cannot walk from THV to Port Orleans, unless you walked through the golf course, which is not allowed.
There are no public sidewalks between those two resorts.

Just take a lazy launch along the Sassagoula River to get there! :goodvibes

I think it's possible but not feasible. IF one were going to do it, the best route would depend on whether it's Riverside or French Quarter. For either you'd walk out of THV to the road. At that point your route would vary depending on your destination. For RS, you'd cross the road past the green there, cross the canal on the cart path and basically walk that hole back to the tee (don't know which hold it is). RS is directly behind the tee. You'd have to skirt a small amount of bushes and trees to get to the road that circles RS. After that it depends on where the room is.

For FQ, you'd take a left at Vacation Club way, cross the canal and walk into the grass along the canal after you cross it following the canal. You'll have a small amount of trees/bushes to get through as well and then you'd be at the path along the canal for FQ.

I personally would not do either for a number of reasons including that neither are acceptable to Disney but I also wouldn't do THV or OKW without a car.

Wouldn't you have to get to DD and then take a second boat?

To take a boat, you would have to either walk to the Marketplace dock and take the Port Orleans boat from there, or....
take a boat from either THV or SSR to the Pleasure Island dock, then either walk to the Marketplace dock or take the water taxi to the Marketplace dock, then take the Port Orleans boat from there.

As others have pointed out, walking between the resorts is not very feasible. You would probably be better off trying to get a Congress Park room and then it would be a short walk to the Marketplace boat launch....but, you won't be guaranteed Congress Park.

They have been known to call the boats in to SSR dock when the need arose, they likely could do the same for THV. It's hit or miss and I don't know how often it's done but I do know it's happened before.

I would not recommend that walk. I have seen gators along the banks between the cross canal walk and the FQ.

As I noted, I wouldn't recommend it, though I might consider it for just myself. Gators would not be a deterrent however.

That walk just isn't possible. Take the boat, take a bus to DTD and then to the other resort, or rent a car.

thanks everyone. I like the boats, so think thats how we'll go...but will definately have a car if we stay at THV

Seeing you will have a car, you could drive there in less than 5 minutes, doing it by boat will be quite an adventure.
I wouldn't even venture a guess as to how long it will take by boat, but it won't be a quick.
