We are thinking about going in Dec. and we want the flexability to walk to the parks if it is possible and a reasonable distance. Please let me know if you have done this and where.

DQ Fan, funny seeing you here. ;)

Anyway, to answer your question.... We stayed at the Anaheim Fairfield Inn. It was well within walking distance. Not once did DSS or DSD complain about the walk (a feat within itself, as yesterday we went to Wal-Mart and DH (who is a bit compulsive) just got a new Tundra, so we parked in the last spot in a row and DSS was like, we have to walk THAT far). We liked it a lot. Not a lot of frills, but clean, and plenty of space for our stuff. There was a small refrigerator, which was great for drinks. We also had a great view of DL, DCA and fireworks. We enjoyed watching the monorail fly by.

We took afternoon breaks each day and found it very convenient. They have a website, check it out www.anaheimfairfieldinn.com

Thanks Miss Jasmine, as you can see I have other priorities lately. :D I never trust a hotel is as close to things as they say, plus you never know what you have to walk through in addition to it being accross the street.

If you have anything else to add I would love to read it, it has been over ten years since either of us have been to DL so we are in the dark as to the current status of things down there.

You may want to try Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites. This hotel is Very close to the cross walk that is across from DL/DCA. They offer suites as well as regular rooms, and they all have refrigerators and microwaves. They do have a website it is www.anaheimdesertinn.com .Have a great time DL is absolutely gorgeous during the holiday season.:earsgirl:

DQFan, You are not even going to believe the big change that has occured around the DLR resort. I had never been there before, but from what I heard, it was pretty dirty and trashy looking outside of DLR. Disney and the City of Anaheim funded a beautifcation project. There are now medians in the roads with trees, shrubs and plants. All restuarants and hotels have to adhere to sign height requirements. I've seen some before pictures and all I can say is WOW.

I'm so used to WDW that it was wierd for DLR to be right, smack, dab in the middle of a city. I'm used to being totally sequestered from the real world.

We loved DCA. Not everyone feels that way, so it's a personal opinion. Sure it could use a couple of things, but I think a lot of people who had never gone through a Disney park opening before expected so much more. I for one have been through the openings of Disney/MGM and Animal Kingdom and know that it's not perfect at the beginning.

DTD is very nice. Of course, no where as big as the one at WDW, but very charming.

I think you are going to love al the great changes that have taken place.

P.S. Now if they would only add Disney Quest :p

Howard Johnson Plaza, Fairfield Inn, Park Inn International, Tropicana, Best Western Park Place Inn, Park Vue, Best Western Anaheim Inn, Carousel Inn, Desert Inn and Suites, Ramada Saga, Anaheim Plaza, Castle Inn and Suites, Candy Cane Inn, Penny Sleeper Inn. Are all with in walking distance
Just a tiny hair farther... Holday Inn Express, Sheraton Four Points, Portofino Inn, Jolly Roger, Desert Palm Inn and Suites, Alpine Motel.
I have stayed at a few of them and they have all been at the very least okay. My Favorites are Candy Cane and Howard Johnson.

All of the above... plus all 3 onsite resorts are walking distance and very, very nice. The Best Western Park Place Inn is directly across the street from the walkway into the park, and all the hotels around it are an easy stroll. You are looking for the 1400 block of Harbor Blvd if you really want a short walk. I have stayed in a couple of them, they are OK if you don't plan to spend much time in your room.

I much prefer to stay onsite. :) I have special needs kids, and we tend to spend more time at the resort to settle down. If you stay onsite, then you walk through Downtown Disney to get to the parks' main gates... beautiful, worthwhile, wonderful.

DH & I stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites for five nights (the last part of May this year).
Great area!:bounce:
Not the closest hotel, but pretty darn near!:bounce:
Just a few doors away from "The Crosswalk"!

just don't be shocked, these are a great value for the $, and as close as they say ! But they are Motels with exterior hallways and parking lots for views. We stay there but for some it would be a large step down from WDW.

We will be staying at the Park Place Inn next. We stayed there two years ago and enjoyed it. It is directly across from the shuttle bus entrance and the shortest non Disney Hotel walk. However my favorite remains Howard Johnson's. It is a longer walk but it does offer the option of taking a shuttle bus.

I usually stay on site, but I have had great experience with Candy Cane Inn, clean, very close - easy walk - good price. They do have well run bus/shuttle transportation.

Do you have another link Bob? This one isn't working. :(

Update.....that's weird it works now. Sorry Bob!!

The Desert Inn, Carousel Inn, BW Anaheim, BW Park Place Inn, Tropicana, & Best Inn are all right across the street from the walk in entrace to the parks. The Fairfield Inn, Howard Johnson, Vagabond Plaza Inn, & Ramada are about a block from the entrance. All the hotels that are farther away offer shuttles. I do know that the Candy Cane Inn has their own private shuttle. Some of the other hotels like the WestCoast & Hilton share shuttles.

Things to consider:

Timing: In the winter time the park closes earlier and shuttles run less frequently (probably onthe hour)

Small children: If traveling with small children who may need naps I would recommend staying at a hotel right across the street. It's an easy quick walk and you don't have to waste time waiting for the shuttles. And definately bring a stroller!
