I'm currently booked at Best Western but am considering switching.....:)

One is directly across the street, the other is about 3/10 of a mile. I will say this. My friend stayed there and at midnight all I could think was "thank goodness I'm across the street" But, sometimes it's about the price, which can be quite a bit. Most on this board will say it's about a 10 min walk

Yup it's 10 min. Cut thru mimis parking lot and across Manchester cuts it to about 9 min. Very easy walk :)

Oh wow.....lot longer of a walk.....almost double. And your right in the AM it's not a big deal....the evening is when you go "ow ow ow ow""" :rotfl2: Best Western it is!

I have stayed at BW, and before you ask, the breakfast is next door and it's fine, but don't eat downstairs for lunch or dinner, it's HORRIBLE

We crossed at the lights on Manchester & walked along the Disneyland side of the street, cutting through the bus area..... it took us about 10 minutes with our 2 kids.

Sometimes we would cut through Mimis parking lot, but the drives going into the motels stressed me out with anxious kids walking a little ahead, so we would cross to the other side. Waiting for the light seemed to take a little while but no one seemed to walk on that side. I would say 10 minutes with kids. In the morning, it's no big deal. At night, it's a little jaunt, but we all got used to it. It was worth staying at HOJOs, but we've stayed there before and just like to know what we're getting if you know what I mean. Plus, the pools made it a must for us since we have to take breaks in the middle of the day or else people are CRANKY by 6pm!

We had a double stroller with toddlers and 2 teens with us and it took about 10 minutes. No one complained about the walk, I didn't think it was bad at all and we were there at opening and stayed til about 11 pm each night, so we did a lot of walking! Hojos is worth the little bit of a walk, it is much nicer!

It is reported by the hotel that the walk is 8 min. We tested it out on our first day and it was about 8 minutes for us (no little kids though), but probably by the end of the trip is was about 10.

For us, in the morning it's a 7 min walk, that's from our room to the security entrance of the park, at nite it's more like 10 because we are tired. HoJo is our preferred hotel on Harbor, between the great staff, great rooms and great Ent Rates we try to stay there as often as possible. :) But yes, it's 7-10 min for us.

I personally thought the walk was a piece of cake. We've stayed on property and it feels as though the walk from HOJO was quicker. ;)

My personal opinion is that from the BW entrance to the Hojo entrance is about 4 minutes additional walking. That doesn't include walking to your room from either place.
I think that the killer part of the walk is getting out of DL and to Harbor. The rest is easier, especially with 2 kids in a stroller. It is a nice straight shot.
We never tried walking on the other side. I didn't like the looks of it. It didn't look like there was a barrier between the sidewalk and the street. Plus, I felt safer walking with the crowds of families.
BW is closer, there is no arguing that point, in my opinion though, the difference is minimal when you have walked miles and miles all day.:goodvibes

First bit, absolutely YES.

Second bit, there's just as much of a barrier between sidewalk and street as there is on the hotel-side. It looks dark etc from the hotel side, but when you're on the disney side, it's just as bright and cheery, without other guests to hit you with their strollers, and without big Pepsi trucks holding up pedestrian traffic for 5 minutes as they back into a hotel parking lot. (which was after the rude pedestrians held the semi and traffic up for just as long by refusing to stop at the driveway to let him in)

I'm with Molly, the other side of the street is just as safe as the hotel side with a lot less people on it. I've walked it with my kids, I've walked with DBF and the kids, I've walked it way behind them in essence alone and I've never felt unsafe on that side.

Like I said, we never tried it. It looked darker from our side of the street but we never actually walked over there. I am glad to hear that there is in fact a barrier. It was hard to see for me, but then again, I have terrible vision.:goodvibes There were never very many people on that side, and since for much of the trip I was alone with the kids, I stuck with the crowds when outside the gates. I felt safer crossing with the hordes than by myself closer to Hojo. I felt like it was less obvious I was alone.

Another thing to consider is driving and parking. It was easy to get in and out of the Hojo. Some of the other hotels looked like a tighter squeeze to me. If you are driving and only going to DLR, it may not matter, but if you are coming and going to other places, it was nice to always find a close parking spot.

Yes and no. :goodvibes

On the DL side of Harbor Blvd (just south of Manchester Ave)

there is no barrier between the sidewalk and part of the Merge Lane

for about 150 feet or so.

You can see the Merge Lane in this wikimap:

IMO the HoJo Shortcut is a bit overrated, as it's only 100 feet shorter.

But it is good to know. It never hurts to have an alternate, and there are times when it's helpful to avoid "the crosswalk."

:earsboy:

At first when our feet weren't tired and hurting it would take about 10-12 minutes. At night, and once our feet were tired from days at DL, it would take 15-20 minutes. LOL

We are happier being right across the street, our feet thank us.

I don't know what you're trying to show us there.

A picture on the DL side, looking back towards the Manchester/Harbor crosswalk area (the area being worked on in the picture is all done now).

On the hotel side, from the M/H crosswalk area, looking down the sidewalk going towards the entrance plaza.

I haven't mapped out the exact differences in distances between walking down the hotel side vs the disney side (including skipping the crowded path in, and going up the other aisle towards bag check). However, the point of going the shortcut is not distance, but CROWDS.

I've never seen a crowd on the disney side. I have seen crowds on the hotel side, and that's what I want to avoid, at least for the first 10-15 minutes of my day.

I have never walked that side because it doesn't look like enough sidewalk to me. I am fine marching in with the crowd :)
Love the pics that you and bumbershoot posted made me feel like I was there walkin' down the street pixiedust:
