Does anybody know if it's safe?

I'll be traveling alone and was wondering if I should be concerned about walking alone at night around disneyland area.

TIA :goodvibes

I was never 'alone', I always had my strollered 4 yr old DS with me and stayed at Fairfield Inn. I walked too and from and never had a problem or worry. :earsgirl:

I suppose it depends on how far you have to walk - but if it's a Disney Hotel, or any of the nearby places along Harbor, then it's perfectly safe.

Even at night in December we were always surrounded by dozens of others making the same walk from the parks. Harbor is wide, well lit, and has lots of pedestrians and traffic.

Thanks for your help.

Does anybody know how far (in minute) walk is it to the HoJo or Ramada Maingate from the disneyland gate?
It's really hard to figure out from the map.
Thanks so much!

From the turnstiles, we timed it about 10-12 minutes to HoJo - and that's at the far end of Harbor from the Disneyland entrance, so all the other hotels along Harbor (Fairfield etc) are less than this.

I had this same concern before I went to DL last summer. I was going to be solo and walking to HoJos every evening. Fortunately, everything was fine. There are so many families walking around, you never look like or feel like you're really walking alone. It was a great relief to me to find I was perfectly comfortable walking back after dark.

OK, I've finally made my reservation.
You guys have all been so wonderful with information, thank you so much.

However, S. Harbor is the busy area what about Katella?
I made resv at Anabella hotel (I have a great AAA rate), is that area quite safe for solo walking at night?

Thanks so so much!

If anybody has any WDW questions I can help!!! :teeth:
I am absolutely a newbie at DL tho... thank you

Just returned from DL this weekend and stayed at the Anabella hotel as well.
I walked back by myself a couple of times. I felt very safe and did not worry at all. Normally I would go through GCH and then take the lighted side walk down to Katella and cross to the Anabella. One evening I wanted to visit the shops in DTD by the Disneyland hotel and I went through the backside of
Paradise Pier Hotel.
Normally I have only seen 1 or 2 others walking down to Katella from either hotel, but the street is busy with cars.

It was about a 10 to 15 minute walk and very pretty, because the trees are all light with twinkle lights.

I felt safe.

lucky1 thank you sooo much!
I was wondering how long it would take to walk to and from the park from Anabella.
So glad you mentioned 10-15 mins.

Do you mind sharing your thoughts about the hotel?
Do you like it?

If you ever don't feel safe ask secuirty for an escort, they can escort you to the edge of Disney Property (or any parking lot, for others that have this concern and might have to park in the Pumbaa Lot) and I believe arrange for futher escorts (not sure about the last part though).

wow cmwade77, thanks so much!
I will have to remember that.

Cseca - I am a brisk walker when i am walking alone, so from an area that such as the entrance to DGCH to Entrance to Anabella is about 5 minutes.
Just you will have to wait on the light to cross the street and make sure you hit the walk button.

We like the Anabella and have choosen that when we can not get into a Disney property. Last year we stayed at the HoJo and found the walk not as pleasent to the parks as from the Anabella.
We generally use the Anabella as a place to stay and we don't take advantage of the pool or resturant. The Anabella is an old motel that has upgraded their property greatly and is trying to become more upscale. The have a beautiful lobby and a nice pool area. All the rooms have outdoor entrances. We have stayed there 3 times. This year they have upgraded the rooms with WiFi ($9.95/day or $49/week). They have a great television selection and offer movies on demand (pre-video released movies). They also have some energy saving set up in the room, where you need to have your roomkey set in the wall to run the airconditioner and major lights. This is a good way to keep their cost down. But you will return to a warm room, but it only takes minutes to cool down.

First time we had a first floor room with a patio and a small table and chairs out front. The room had a king bed & sofa and seperate room with a small daybed and tv. The next year we had a very small room with a small "queen" bed, that was very unfortable. We then tried the HoJo's and this year moved back to the Anabella and had a King bed room with a Queen bed in the alcove. I though the bed was coMfortable, but DH felt it wasn't.
I think they can do for an improvement by upgrading the matttresses and boxsprings. Bathrooms are clean and upgraded with marble tile. Very quiet place and Staff was nice.

Enjoy.

thanks so much lucky1!
I'm excited to have gotten a good rate on Anabella hotel.
My only concern is not getting a non smoking room now.
But I spose I'll cross the bridge when I get there... :)
Thanks again for the review.
Really appreciate it.
The last time I went there I stayed at a non walkable off site hotel.
Although the room was ok, the area itself wasn't too great.
So Anabella will be an upgrade for me... :)
can't wait!

thanks a bunches!

what about walking down harbor south of katella? we will be at the travelodge international next month. the longer walk isn't a problem for us, just wondering what it's like at night down that stretch.

I Stayed on harbour blvd for a week in June then 4 nights in September and didnt have 1 problem walking to and from the parks at night or even goin for a midnight stroll through the esplanade or through DTD, very peaceful and gotta love the disney music as your walking through the esplanade at night :)
