I've read several posts where people said they were going to walk their reservation. Is this a no no? I am wondering because the week I want to reserve is in high demand.....and I don't want to start it on a Saturday. I'm afraid all the reservations will be gone by the next day. Advice???

DVC allows it so whether it is okay or not morally would be a personal issue and not something that should mater to anyone else- if DVC didn't want to allow it they could block it in the rules by making you pay for modifications or not able to change until x amount of time but they don't so it doesn't bother them. The only time I question people on it is when they want to try at 7 months when I think it is useless myself as any time that someone from the home resort wanted to they could have the take the reservation you really want and walking would not have helped.

I'm confused. You say you question this at 7 months. Why? I know all the one bedrooms are gone already. I will have to get a two bedroom as it is. I know that they days I want are still available right now...but might not be on the next day. I don't have my home at the resort I want to go to....so the earliest is 7 months out.

At 7 months, a home resort owner could come in and take some of the days while you are trying to walk.

I've done a form of it. I wanted a reservation at VGC arriving either Saturday or Sunday and checking out Friday. Since you can book 7 nights at 7 months, I book Friday to Friday and then call a day or two later to cancel the Friday arrival or Friday and Saturday. Just to get a jump on it to be sure to get it.

I was planning to do this at exactly 7 months....a home resort owner could do it now. It's only 5 days till my seven month mark. I just am afraid to wait the extra day. I only want 6 days not 7 so that won't change my days.

So right now you could book April 8 to 15. Tomorrow you call and drop April 8 and change checkout to April 16. Then the next day drop April 9 and change checkout to April 17. The issue with the home resort owner is they could come in and take the last April 16 tomorrow and that would stop your walking. You would have to cancel and start over. It's just more tricky at 7 months vs 11 months. At 11 months, once you start you are guaranteed to keep going unless DVC takes a room out of service.

I was only planning to do it one day this Friday. Just because I am afraid people will be booking Saturday to Saturday....and I want Sunday to Saturday. I hadn't thought to do it everyday like that. Isn't it annoying to the reservationists? So, essentially, when I do it that one time, I would have all the days I wanted....and I would just have to drop one day....providing the days I needed were still there.

I guessing should have specified in the beginning....just walking it one day....and I don't need another day after that reservation.

I wanted hilton head 1 bedroom....I know those are gone. I'll be happy with a two bedroom. Unfortunately, it's the week right befor Easter.....not including Easter Sunday. So I really might have to walk it, or forget it.

There are far more 2 bedrooms at HH than anything else. 76 dedicated 2 bedrooms vs 21 lockoffs (1 bedrooms/studios).

I wish there were a way to know how many were free. I wouldn't be tempted to walk it if I knew for sure. My husband just wants me to wait for the right day.

I would do what I mentioned above. Do Saturday to Saturday and then change the arrival to Sunday the next day (assuming you have the points). More people check-in Sunday due to lower points.

That's what I was thinking! :). I just wasn't sure how "bad" it was to do this.

we are planning on doing this to. saturday to saturday then changing sunday to sat . i had to borrow pts to do this so what happens with the 33 pts i wont need? can they be banked?

They need to keep the borrowed points in the reservation and return current year points. As long as you are before your banking deadline, you can bank the current year points.

My husband doesn't want us to do this because we have banked points that he wants to use first, and those will be the ones we get back.....yes, you can bank the points you get returned. As for Saturday...those points are more that 33.

I'm wondering if I should try this out... We are staying 11/28/14(Friday after thanksgiving) till 12/6/14. Should I be worried I won't be able to get that Friday? Should I walk it?

I don't know if the Friday after Thanksgiving is busy....you should check that out and if so, maybe you should :)

The Friday after Thanksgiving is busy. As is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. You may want to start walking it the Friday before if you have the points. Thanksgiving will require more than the next Thursday.
