A walking buddy of mine and I are thinking about registering for the 2007 half marathon with our 14 year old sons. We all need some training, but I think we can walk it at the necessary pace. Any of you have experience participating in the Disney races with your teens? Thanks!

I don't know about WDW, but DS and I walked the Columbus half April 1st. He is a freshman at OSU and the course went through parts of the campus. It was a great experience and we had a blast.

I am certain you will have a fantastic time! You will need to get out a bit to practice, I'm sure that the young ones probably won't need as much practice unless they are quite sedentary.

I walked it with my DS who is college age and he did great! We had a fantastic time.

I walked the Columbus Half with Pat and her DS and we had a fantastic time.

I just read on another thread about walking in the WDW half marathon. So I went to the site and read this about pacing:

"All Athletes entering the Marathon and Half Marathon must be able to maintain a 16-minute per mile pace throughout the race, finishing the Half Marathon in 3.5 hours and the Marathon in 7 hours. Anyone not able to maintain a 16-minute per mile pace will be picked up and transported to the finish. For example, if you do not reach the 10 Mile mark by 2 hours, 50 minutes, you will be escorted to the finish line. The time it takes the last entrant (who was at the start line at 6:00 a.m.) to cross the start line will be added to the overall 7-hour limit ensuring all participants a 16-minute per mile pace. In order to successfully complete Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge and to be eligible to receive a Goofy medal, you must complete both the Marathon and the Half Marathon on pace."

How difficult is it to keep this pace? I've done 5 miles in 1.25 hours. So, if I kept that pace, I'd be quick enough, but barely. (ie., 10 miles in 2.5 hours v. a requirement of 2.83 hours.)

Hmmm...I think I need to start timing myself. Maybe I'll try the Baltimore half in October as a test. Then, if I make it, I'll do the WDW in Jan.

Thanks listening to me ramble.
