do these work on the ship are they worth it trying to stay in touch with teen?

They work real good on the ship, but I would keep the volume up, especially near the pools.

Mine worked great when my son called me during my spa massage

They were a bit iffy in certain areas, but we really liked them.

Definately take them. We "lost" our 11 year old and after that did not forget to give it to him. We didn't have any more trouble after that.

They work great and are very nice to have. We also used them on Castaway Cay to communicate when we would separate. Also we became good friends with one of the drink servers (Kadir), he used these to keep in contact with some of his guests. It was nice to be able to call in a drink order and just have it show up. :bounce:

I LOVED having ours with us. We'd take one with us (usually me if my dh and I went separate ways) and my dd would take one whenever she wasn't with one of us. They worked great and gave me a great sense of security for her.

There were a couple of areas that were hard to get a signal or hear her but generally they worked wonders. We even took them on CC - I had one and dd had the other one. I just wish I would have had a 3rd one for dh (we all did our own thing that day). But when dd was done with her teen excursion she was able to find me easily.

Oh I forgot to mention that the ones we had were the ones with the subcodes.

Oh, we absolutely loved having our two-way radios on the ship as well as at WDW. Six of 'em for 3 families... perfect for coordinating everyone!

Some areas of the ship were dicey (for example, deck 10 to deck 2), but we managed to communicate quite well.

The 13-year old tended to turn hers off because it "got annoying", heh... such is the case when you have so many people on the same channel! Make sure this doesn't happen to you. ;)

dont tell my kids i asked i am so not with it ...lol this but what are subcodes?

DisneyJam............Server on CC have a two way?? And my last 3 sailings I had to order 6 at a time!!! LOL

Subcodes are on the fancier two-way radios. Each channel has a bunch of subchannels. So you can be on Channel 7 / subchannel 3. This way it cuts down on the amount of traffic on any given channel.

We took them and had trouble on board the ship. There is a lot of metal in that ship, and metal interferes with radio waves. We have motorola 2 mile ones. They worked great on CC, great when you were stretched across one deck (like Scoops to the adult pool) and pretty well as long as you were within 1-2 decks. They didn't work from the movie theater on Deck 5 to the Goofy pool on Deck 9 (DH tried to tell me he was sending DS up cause he was bored in the movie, and I never got the call, so DH came up with him).

If you already have them, bring them. But I wouldn't buy a set just for the cruise, unless you're willing to spend a pretty fair amount for very good ones.

Kadir was the only server I saw that had the two way. Someone else on the boards have posted about him using these as well. He was great!!! He noticed on like day 2 on the ship that DW and I had them and that's when we coordinated channels. Then on CC, we checked in with him early. We were ordering a couple of beers, and after him getting to know us during the week, he just brought us out 6 in our own personal cooler.

Pays to be friendly with the CMs!!!:teeth:
