We are going on our first Disney Cruise on November 2nd. It will be the first cruise with our daughter. Do people use those hand-held walkie talkies or whatever they call them for on the ship. It seems that I am always trying to meet up with my family and thought it might be a way to save some steps.

:D

I've seen them used quite a bit and there are several threads discussing them in depth. We plan to take them on our upcoming cruise - but understand from other postings that they don't always "connect" due to the steel.

The two-way radios that use the Family Radio Service (FRS) band? Yes, you will see them all over the parks and all over the ships. Make sure you get the models that come with the sub-channels so you don't have to listen to any extraneous conversation also occuring on the channel you've selected.

We used them last year on our cruise, and use them at the parks also. They are a lifesaver. Only thing is if you are in a loud area (such as one of the clubs), you won't hear the other person calling you.

We used them on our cruises and loved them! We were able to hear each other pretty good. Be sure not to give out personal info while using them as we did hear people talking on them frequently.:D

I strongly agree with dave. many people have these and without the subchannels, they are really almost impossible to use in a crowded place like disney.

Thank you all so much for your input. I think they would work so well for us. Happy cruising to all of you!!!

I understand the need to keep in touch with family members but at the parks I see everyone yelling into their walkie talkies and it is just as annoying as people having loud conversations on their cell phones all around you in a restaurant. I hear kids and grown-ups just yakking about nothing and it's very annoying. My first cruise is coming up and I'm hoping I won't be surrounded by walkie talkies. It's okay to use them when necessary but PLEASE have a little consideration! Thanks.

I bought ones with a vibration feature so loud areas shouldn't be a problem. Also nice for being in rides or if they are in the middle of a demonstration or theater presentation. Rather having the Radio squawk it will vibrate.

I bought them to stay in touch with my son while he is in the club and for when he goes into those play areas at WDW. It took me 10 minutes to find him in the Dinosaur Dig, the last time I let him go in there at AK.
