I am looking for some advice on a good but not super expensive set of Walkie Talkies to use in the parks.

What brands work best? Will they work between a resort and a park?
Do they eat batteries or is a rechargable system best?

We do not have cell phone and we thought that a pair of these might allow us to keep better track of the kids if we separate.

We bought a set of Motorola walkie-talkies years ago. Honestly, they were a nuisance and used batteries too fast. DH had to carry his cell phone anyway, so we switched to just using our cell phones. Maybe you could get an inexpensive cell phone for your kids?

We have a pair of Motorola's that we use at home when DS wanders to his friends houses. We took them on one trip and used them at Sea World. We gave him one when he went into the big climbing structure. It was SO funny. So many people use walkie-talkies. We could hear multiple conversations. It worked okay for our use - but I woudn't want to rely on them for a long time.

I wouldn't think walkie-talkies would work between a resort and a park. The max range usually is 2 miles. It's best for short distances.

we've used rechargeable motorolas for a few years. they were under twenty five at wal mart or target and we got the car cord at wal mart for 15.00 to charge them in the car ;)

Hmmmmm....would we be better off buying two prepaid cell phones?
Yikes what would those cost?

We bought some at Target I think several years ago. They were NOT motorolas though!! We have had them a long time and have only had to replace the batteries once. They used 4 AA batteries. Get the ones with sub channels and there is a much better chance of finding channels without much traffic. We originally bought some with just a few channels when they first became popular and yes it was a pain to use them but once we went to the ones with something like 38 sub channels we have not had any problems. If you do not want to invest in cell phones do not do it. Using cell phones is just the "popular " thing to do now and they are not necessary!!!!
