Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Nancy, my groin soreness is gone. I soaked in the hot whirlpool and massaged and stretched my groin muscles yesterday and today, (that does sound terrible don't it? Don't even go there Bill and Robert).

I'm in that "Bite Me Zone", today. I just couldn't get going. It was 40 degrees with a brisk wind and I just didn't feel like walking outside. I went to the gym and couldn't get into the treadmill either, little things like static on the treadmill TVs and just not feeling the love.

So I jumped in the pool and did a uarter mile of pool sprints and then upper body exercises. Then a good soak and stretch in the hot tub. It wasn't much but just wasn't into it today.

Everyone have a wonderful day.

I just found this thread, although I have not read all of it, I have gotten some good tips.

It was good to meet some of you at the ToT race, it is always nice to put faces to screen names.

Dave - Scott thinks he may have also injured a groin muscle, I will try to get him to PM you for some suggestions.

Lynn:eeyore:

PandaDaveDon't worry. I wouldn't touch any post that discusses both the Bite Me Zone and groin stretching at the same time. :scared1:

Welcome Lynn. Please join us in our posting that is unique to walkers and their warped senses of humor.

On the subject of muscle soreness. I'm 56 so I will get soreness more than a 20 year old. What I did for the groin muscle that was bothering me was; after my workout I would wait till I was in the hot tub and my muscles were warm from the motion of the workout then the heat of the tub. I would gently stretch all my lower body muscles, then the sore places I would massage then gently stretch some more. When there was no soreness when I stretched I would stretch a little more then stop.

I'm very careful to stretch slowly and gently to start with since if you bounce into a stretch, especially cold you can do more damage than good. The ice bath is good for post workout also but I can't bring myself to do that. Yuck!

Now, now boys, please keep it clean.......there are some perfect ladies in the audience. (I'm not one of them, but I'm sure they're out there!)

Nancy: This is just MY opinion, but I would go with the smaller tree and make it easier on yourself. Your boys are fully grown and should understand. Christmas is in your heart, not what you put in or on your house. John and I have already decided that once Jason graduates from college (May 08) we are definitely going to scale down on the decorations. We will still have the stuff, so if anyone complains, they are welcome to go ahead and do it themselves.

Cute little story to share......my 2 daughters (23 and 25) have not seen each other since last Christmas. I just found out that for the past month or so they have been emailing each other with a countdown for being together again at home for Thanksgiving and the words from the Disney commercial "I'm too excited to sleep!" It definitely makes this momma's heart full of joy to see them so close......especially since it seems like only yesterday they were pulling hair and name-calling!

Have a great day everyone!

I finally broke the 17 minute mile mark on my 3-miler tonight: 16:58 average! Hey, now, 2 seconds is 2 seconds!! Could I have kept going for 13 miles? Uh, no. I didn't have a near-death experience, though! Just over 8 weeks to keep whittling down that time and building the endurance. Will I make it? All I can say is I'm sure going to give it my 100% best effort!

Karla

:woohoo:

Wow Karla, you did great!!! You and I will probably cross the finish line together. My speed is fine for 6 miles but on a real long walk that may change.

Mark and I did 3 miles on the “city” route last night in the dark. It wasn’t too dark because of the streetlights and the temp was quite mild. I was suppose to do 2 but our route is 3 so we did that. Tonight is 4 and rest tomorrow with a LW on Saturday or Sunday.

I’m scheduled for 6 this weekend and will do that either out or on the TM. Not sure which yet, depends on the temp.

Nice to read all about our training here, get ideas and share our pain(s).

Keep at it, less than 2 months!

Yep it is true, just did a good 1.5 mile run this morning, will try the hot tub tonight, it is feeling better just having a hard time starting up slowly. Time seems to be the best healer, I can not take asprin fro inflamation, and really don't like taking any pain meds, found a natural suplement that seems to be working well.

Looking forward to the Jan 1/2.

Weather is supposed to get rather chilly and maybe snow next week.

Ok Karla and Lisa have stepped up to lead the way out of the "Bite Me" zone. Which is good because it's 26 degrees here. That's frog flipping freezing here in Southern Ky.

So I'm taking my iPod, cranking it loud and going to walk in the mall this morning.

I was pleasently surprised that my chest and shoulders were a little sore from the pool workout yesterday. Means I did some good. I really worked hard in the pool even though I didn't walk.

I hope everyone is going to have a strong day today, it is friday for most of you.

Has anyone heard from our little hero Wendy? Since she did that reverse Goofy last weekend I haven't seen her post. I do hope she is ok, she is such an inspiration, and a darn sweet lady to.

Happy Friday y'all.

I felt good after the 4 miles – took a shower, did my beauty regime and put my PJ’s on. Miranda stopped by after work at 8:30 and said I looked pretty good and not tired and surprisingly I was not tired !?

This weekend our LW is suppose to be 6 miles and the temps are dropping so it will probably be a fast 6 miles. Have a million things to do since we leave for Disney next Friday!!! On our 33 wedding anniv. Dinner will be at the Flying Fish Café, our regular anniversary dinner every year! A Patron Margarita awaits me!!

Take care all!

Just checking to see if its safe to come back here yet. Between PandaDave stretching his groin and Robert posting elsewhere about getting relief with his "Stick," I am becoming very afraid.

I 'll show you the proper way to use The Stick when I see you in Jan:duck:

I didn't think to ask Dave how he hurt the groin:scratchin

I have 2 sticks. Gave one to my daughter. Yes they do work.

We won't go further on this coversation:rolleyes:

Need I remind everyone that Santa is coming to town next week and bringing all his spying elves......don't worry, Bill, he knows who really is naughty or nice. :thumbsup2

Guys I'm pleading stupid here and acting like I didn't read the conversation above. Nope ain't going there.

Denise all you pretty princesses have been wonderful this year. Santa needs to take you all to DisneyWorld.

The new walker, "Funwalker", Margie is a friend I invited over to join us, please make her welcome, she is good people and quite witty and fun.

She lives in that show magnet, the U.P. of Michigan. She's a cold weather bunny so last years Disney Marathon would have been hard for her.

Tonight at work was a Zoo! There are people who should not be allowed to reproduce, I think they all got together and decided to get glasses today.

Have a great evening y'all.

Yes, ignorance is not bliss and the big man in that red suit is watching all of us.....:santa:

There you guys go again, blaming me for everything I do. "I was framed".

I'm heading off to the gym for a short walk and some pool fun. I'm still reeling from that 18 miler on monday. Maybe after tomorrows rest day I'll be ready to tackle another LSD on monday.

Am I the only one who spends way more on workout shoes than on work shoes? I change my runners when they start showing wear but let my work shoes go till they are falling apart.

Have and awesome day y'all.

Hi Everyone!

I am Margie - funwalker
Dave (and his sweet princess: ) is a dear friend that I met on another walking site.

Dave, I am from Portage, Michigan ... I am sorry, but it is a very southern Michigan location not the UP. I DO like winter a lot. Much -Much happier with the cooler temperatures, so I understand why you might have thought that I lived in the UP ;)

I have enjoy walking for several years. Never regularly and never did more than 2-3 miles. Then from a passing challenge in the doctor's office I walked my first marathon at age 60...Just Because I Could

I like the 15-minute mile long distance pace. I learned I do not care for the time it takes to train for the full marathon so the half has become my favorite.

I started using the 5k's for training to increase my speed. At this time (never say never) I am just a walker not a race walker.

I have one married daughter, Sara she is 30 yrs - a precious, cutest, little grandson, Hagen who I get to take care of and he is 10 months.

I am a widow. My husband died in an airplane crash in August of 2002.

Denise, I am not a quilter, but I am reading the Elm Creek Quilters series by Jennifer Chiaverini. Oh, I am way beyond an avid reader. :guilty:

I need to get some miles in for Dave's Challenge today...:cheer2:
First I am going to weigh in so I will know how I am doing with the Health Challenge on that other thread.

I love Hugs :grouphug:

Enjoy His 'Son' shine!
~Margie

Hi Margie:flower3:

I just saw a commercial on TV that said, "Regular laughter adds approximately 8 years to your life.
