Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

I got to meet Connie and Kathy yesterday at the packet pick-up. Very wonderful high class ladies.

I also got to meet Judy and several of the others last night at the MNSSHP, then we had the pleasure of Wendy's company for the rides and parade.

Yep, life is good. So many pretty princesses in one place.

Sure wish the rest of you guys could have made it. Miss y'all.

Hi everyone,

I just found this post on walking the 1/2. I am going to doing the 1/2 marathon this year and I am a walker! I can't wait to see what everyone says and to get pointers. I am excited and nervous, all at the same time.

Today was my first 6 mile walk. I did it in 1 1/2 hours.:cool1:

Michelle

Welcome Michelle. Dave and a lot of the others are in WDW right now doing the TOT so this thread will be a bit quiet till they return.

Today was crappy in NH, cold and rainy and we're tired. Didn't do a thing, went shopping with Miranda at a quilt store and now I'm working on a new purse. Ya that's not working my legs one bit!

Tomorrow we have trick or treaters here in Manchester so I will give as much candy away as I can so it doesn't stick to my butt.

I hope to do my 8 miles on Monday, we'll see how the flooring goes this weekend. Ya that's our exciting week off, installing new flooring but it has to be done and this will be the best time to do it.

Take care all, will post when I can.

Today I did my 6 miler in less than impressive time, BUT I did it! Got my new Garmin charged but it had trouble locating satellites until about half way through my walk. Goofy data. Said I walked 10 miles, sometimes my pace was 17 minute mile, sometimes 30, when actually I averaged 19. So, some adjustment apparently needs to be made, but I'm looking forward to getting better acquainted with my new walking buddy.

Welcome, Michelle. Great time on your 6 miles...you walked circles around me!

Denise, I'm a rookie quilter. Took my first class this spring and loved it!

Good Afternoon!

You guys are shaming me into getting my act together. I did 3 miles yesterday, so I'm hoping for 6 today. I am sort of generally tired from staying up too many nights to see my beloved Red Sox win the World Series, after watching my Patriots go to 8-0 yesterday. It's nice to have winning teams. Kind of makes up for the many, many years when that just wasn't so...although I can't really claim them like dh (from NH) can. I grew up in Cardinals country...no, I don't claim that moveable football team! Yes, 2004 was a challenging October for me!

khl-or -- :woohoo: on the 6 miles! I hope you decide you love your new walking buddy!

Miranda -- I'm with you, I can't wait to see more ToT pictures!popcorn::

Denise -- Saturday was just yucky! I barely moved, it just didn't seem worth the effort. Good luck handing out your candy. I have my bags ready, but we don't do it until Halloween. I'm keeping all the little bags sealed, so no random helping myself:rotfl:

Michelle -- :welcome: I think you and I are at about the same pace. My longest distance to date is 6 miles, in 90 minutes. I have to see my book to see when I'm due to increase, I have a feeling it's soon!:scared1: But, this is a great place to get advice and support. WISH walkers Rock!party:

Dave -- Are you back yet? Still enjoying fun in the FL sun? I hope the race was all you had hoped for!:goodvibes

I downloaded 23 new songs into my i-pod yesterday. I'm hoping the infusion of new (to me) music will help get me going. My dh asked me what I added -- when I said "Nickelback, Lifehouse, John Parr, Men at Work, Janet Jackson, Bryan Adams, Belinda Carlisle" etc., he said a little prayer of thanks our i-pods are different colors so there won't be any mix-ups. He's more of a Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, headbanger kind of guy.

Which gives me an idea -- what are your 5 favorite workout songs (assuming you walk with music)?

Inquiring minds and all that -- actually, I'm still looking for more ideas. I know "Dreams" by Van Halen is a WISH walker fav!

Maria

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the warm welcome! :thumbsup2 I really am excited to find this group. I am doing the 1/2 with some friends but they are mainly runners and I AM NOT!

I didn't walk today, even though I was scheduled to. I had a terrible migraine yesterday  and I just didn't have the energy today. I will in the morning though. I can't get wimpy now, the 1/2 is way too close!

I hope you are all having a great evening! I look forward to meeting all of you.

Michelle

:welcome: Michelle!!!!!!!!!!!! We love new people to play with. :jumping1:

Maria: My 5 favorite songs are: 1) Run Run Away by Slade; 2) Goodbye to You by Scandal; 3) Stronger by Kanye West; 4) Invincible by Pat Benatar; and, 5) Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran.

I am an 80s girl mostly but there is some mix in there. My DH is the same headbanger as yours. Sometimes I do find his music a welcome change though. :rolleyes1

Dave: Sooooooo sorry I missed you at ToT. I saw you in the distance walking by to the start but since they had us 6.5ers non-corralled off to the side, I lost sight quickly. We had DF issues and were stuck in the room most of the time. :headache:

Thank goodness I am back on maintenance. Wish I was doing the Goofy this year but hey, there is always 2009 right..... I am DEFINITELY doing the ToT 13K next year. Sounds like I missed all the fun on the longer course :lmao: along with missing all the WISHers before and after. I was in all red for anyone who might have noticed, red shorts, red tech shirt and red pullover. :scared1: My MIL thought I would stand out that way so that my DH could find me. Keep training everyone!!!!!!!!!!!:cheer2:

Hey everyone we are back!!!!

Had such a awesome time

Welcome Michelle!!!!!!!!!

So nice to put faces to the people you chat to everyday. Everyone we met was just amazing and we had such a great time at all the WISH events that we attended.

Didn't get to meet everyone but there is always Marathon weekend right:banana:

Time to get back to serious training for the 1/2 yippppp just over 2 months till back in Disney!!!!!!

Kim

Morning everyone. We got back very late Sunday night and had to work on Monday so spent last evening unpacking and doing laundry so count that as crosstraining. The good news is that I am returning to WDW in less than a month. I so enjoyed meeting everyone and loved the ToT race. This was my 3rd racing event and having all the WISH people around really made it so much more exciting to be doing the race. It was DH first event and since he is not a speedy walker I wasn't sure how he would do, but he did well and wasn't last which was his goal.

Kim I keep looking for you and only after I got home did I realize that you were walking with Robert and Linda and I was right behind you for a portion of the race. I was with Jeanne and we had on the green witch hats.

Welcome Michelle.

Need to get back into training starting today.

Nancy

Welcome home everyone! (and welcome to the thread, Michelle)

Why is it when you miss 2 days of work it takes a whole week to catch up?

I loved meeting all the WISH people, but there were several people I was looking forward to meeting and never ran into. Kim, we did not realize that was you right near us......we saw you at the start and thought you were one of the elite from the running thread. Also, I kept looking for Wendy in a green shirt and later found out from Robert she was wearing black! I saw someone who I thought was her but she had no WISH markings so I figured I was wrong and never approached her. I met the great Queen Judy, but only had time to chat for a moment because I was expecting the race to start on time. Had I known better, we could have had a l-o-n-g conversation. I finally got to meet Cam, Jen, Martha and others whose names I forgot. (sorry, I'm old and forgetful). We had a blast playing mini-golf with Kathy and Connie and the 2 other ladies whose names I forgot also.

I wish we would have had more time to play at the party, but with the late start and hanging around waiting for others to finish, there was just a little time left for fun stuff. Wait times for RRC and ToT were around the 30 minute mark and quite frankly after walking 8 miles, our feet didn't feel like standing on line. We went to check out the merchandise, but it was pretty poor pickings. I was disappointed that our shirts didn't have the date or any mention of the inaugural event on them.

Of course, the highlight (and surprise) of the evening for me was my husband, John finishing over 7 minutes before I did! This was the training partner I have to stop and wait for every single time we go out together....the one I have to constantly urge to move faster....and the one I secretly feared was "not worthy" to walk with me! :rotfl2: Well, talk about putting the pedal to the metal when it counts! He took off like a bat outta hell and never stopped until he crossed the finish line. I totally could not believe it and now look like the biggest liar in the world! Even Nancy was amazed.....she kept saying that she thought I was worried about John being able to keep up and there he was half a mile in front of us!

I also got to spend some quality time with Dave, Erica, Robert and Linda and they are all great people. Dave isn't nearly as scary in person as he is online, but he does cheat wickedly at golf!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Jean I was so disappointed to not meet you and Nancy, not sure how we missed each other. I will have to scour Roberts pics and find out which ones you are.

Kim

Kim: Ha,ha...I just posted something similar on another thread! You can't miss us.....Nancy and I wore the green striped witch hats!

All of our WISH Walking princesses were especially lovely on Saturday night.

Some were just awesomely cute:

DianeL and her Pal Mickey dressed as ToT elevator operators.

Linda doing her little trot and dancing at the same time.

Jeanne and Nancy can even make stripped hats look good.

Kim with her wonderful friendly personality, as soon as you meet her you like her.

Connie is so witty and fun to be around.

Kathy is one those special people who are always so interesting and easy talk to.

My own dear princess, Erica, is so excited by everything. Her happiness is so contagious.

Wendy took off like a rocket and I didn't get to spend any time with her.

All are world class ladies.

Oh and Smarty Pants Jeanne, I didn't cheat at golf, I'm just creative. That's my story and I'm sticking by it.

Michelle welcome.

Kim

Kim: Check out this link. http://www.disneyrunning.com/07tot13kphotorm1.html They were behind us(barely) on the dirt trail before WWoS and you can see once at WWoS, they passed us.

We had fun at Mini Golf and missed you and Mike.

I agree that Dave cheats. He hits the ball into a water hazard on another hole but doesn't stand in the water to hit it. He retrievs it(almost going swimming) but no penalty stroke. His Y-M-C-A is much better than his golf game:scared1:

Great meeting all of you this week:banana:

Welcome back everyone. It was nice that pictures were posted so we could see everyone having a good time and what to expect should we decide to try it next year.

I'm on vacation this week and only worked out yesterday a 4 miler. I have been having trouble with my neck again so it makes me exhausted. Mark did the new floor in the kitchen, dining and hall and it looks BEAUTIFUL. He did a great job but his legs and lower back are killing him from all that bending. What a guy, he even came with us to the track yesterday.

Today we plan on doing something FUN, not sure what but if I work out it will be again at night so I can just collapse into bed like I ususally do and not be drained all day.

I did watch and DVR a Nova special last night about training for a full marathon. It was very interesting and of course scientific. I wish at times I had that Dr and coach to watch over me but we move and work the best we can.

Goal this year: train, strengthen, not be swept, finish and not be dragging at the end. Oh and in the process HAVE A GOOD TIME!

Well I'm off to start my day with coffee, the news and ice for my neck. Then off to some adventure here in Beautiful New England - it's been perfect most of the week.

Good morning dear friends.

Now that the ToT adventure is over it's time to get back on the training path. I'm still not sure Roberts training plan of making laps around the Epcot lake with a beer stop every lap is good Goofy training. I think my blood beer level is down to about 10% now after 2 days.

I would like to set the record straight. It was not my balls I was retrieving from the mini golf's ponds. You can't expect a pretty princess to retrieve her own balls now can you. I was just being my Southern Gentleman self. It's in the country boy hand book to pamper your princesses.

Well off to get in a real training walk.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.......enough about your balls :rotfl2: (those that were there know the truth!)

Well, I see that our Fearless leader Dave has returned and already stirring up trouble talking about his balls. Heaven help Erica, Cathy and Connie who had to put up with him for 18 holes. Only at Disney could someone with the worse score win a prize.

Jeanne-- Are you and John ready for this weekend? I still am amazed at how fast John completed that race. Did you see his picture on one of the other threads? He was really moving he almost looked like he was jogging.

Robert--- Glad you made it home safely. After my 12 days at WDW I am finding it hard to get back into work mode.

I am back into training. I could start until Tuesday as we got back so late Sunday night that I had to unpack and get laundry done on Monday.

Tues 3 miles on TM and pump class which killed me. My legs were sorer after pump class than doing a half marathon.

Wed 4 miles outside. That will probably be the last time I can walk outside after work since the clocks go back this weekend and it will be getting dark when I get home.

Today will be another 3 miles on TM and another pump class. I love being tortured so will be going back again. Despite my protests about pump class, I do think it is helping my leg strength since I am using different muscles. I didn't do pump class when I trained for my half in April and I can notice a difference.

Have Kathy and Connie returned home yet? I haven't seen any posts from them. I remember one of them minding crowds and wondered how she felt doing the race since it was very congested at the beginning.

Time to get to work.

Nancy
