So which company should I go with ?? First time ever getting one. My Mom wants me to handle reserving a scooter for trip Sept 29 - Oct 9, 2011. One that she keeps for the entire trip. This is all new to me and could use any suggestions or help deciding....
Please let me know

THANKS SO MUCH

I've used both in the past. Apple is a little cheaper--that's the only difference I found.

I prefer Apple, but only because they are a little cheaper.

As the others posted, you will be fine with either one. Both are established companies that a lot of DIS posters recommend. Both will deliver to your resort and pick up again when she is done.

Sorry to just jump in here. Is it necessary to be present at the hotel when Apple delivers a scooter or can this be done prior to our arrival / after our departure?

Also, I think 25 mile range per battery charge should be more than enough for a day at Epcot, right?

How easy is it to disassemble the Apple Deluxe scooter with the captain chair and put into a van? We would need two scooters. Our rental van is a 8 passenger Toyota Sienna but we are only 5 people driving, so there should be enough room?

The larger scooters are heavier and the base will be the hardest; because, the weight and size is bigger. Someone we knew used this scooter and it fit into a Lincoln Continental (older model) trunk with only the Captain's seat in the car's back seat.

I do think it helps if there are two people doing the in and out of the scooter from the van and it helps even on assembly to have an extra set of hands.

Most of the companies deliver to Bell Services before you arrive.
Randys wants to deliver directly to the guest - this is especially helpful for people who need some instruction or have questions.
If you don't feel a need for that, any of the other companies will deliver to Bell Services for you to pick up.

For the 'will they fit' question, I think they should, as long as you have only 5 people in a van and can stash pieces in places other than the back area. I don't know for sure though, although some other posters may have experience and can give you better information.
I'd suggest calling the rental place and asking. They probably have heard the same question before and can answer.

Thanks! The only problem then might be to have to schlepp the batteries or at least the motor units up to our room at OKW every night.

I have some other questions, but opened another thread for them to stay on topic here.

Unless you have a travel-type ECV (such as the Pride Go-Go) there are two batteries which weigh about 25 pounds each, and they can only be charged while connected to the ECV. The travel ECVs usually have a battery back with two batteries in it and weighs about 30 pounds, but the charging unit will connect directly to the battery pack.

So if you are using a standard ECV you will have to remove it from your vehicle and take it up to the room for charging each night.

Thanks Cheshire Figment, I was thinking on getting the Pride Victory 10 Super Deluxe Scooter for the bigger distance per charge. Or would a 14 mile range still be enough for a full day at Epcot?

We might need a scooter at FW . Can you charge them right at your RV site?

we might need a scooter at FW for the parks. can we charge them at our RV site?

sorry for the second post but it came up as a fatal error so I did it again.

I wanted to recommend Apple, as well... not only are they cheaper than Walker, their fees include insurance. They also have excellent customer service! :thumbsup2

Price wise Walker and Apple are nearly the same with Walker being less expensive for short term (4 days or less) and also water/weather resistant scooters which have plenty of power. Walker also has service personnel onsite at Disney and Universal should you need super quick service.
I've also found Walker customer service outstanding in the years we've been using their equipment.
Walker and Apple both have the GoGo type scooters but for comfort and ease of transport the Captain Chair type that Walker offers as well makes long days at the parks much more enjoyable and easier on the body.
I'd definitely go with a deluxe chair from Walker.

A vote for apple. They had the ecv waiting at our hotel and only charged half a day as we were arriving around 6pm which I thought was very kind. No problems with the ecv or the service.

So the Apple scooters are not waterproof? Not really ideal for Florida climate, is it? I just assumed that they would be, as outdoor vehicles.

What happens you have parked the scooter outside a ride and it starts to rain while you are inside? And does it mean we have to find shelter every time it starts to rain and we are outside?

You can take an extra rain poncho and drape it over the scooter to keep the controls and the seat dry. Some people stretch a shower cap over the controls. When we rented scooters at WDW we had some light rain and tried to park under some eaves or in a store or restaurant. Tried to avoid any puddles, and were fine.

I use the extra poncho method :thumbsup2 The most important thing is that the control mechanism stays dry so be sure that is covered... going inside to an attraction or for a meal, if it looks like it might rain or rain is in the forecast, I cover the scooter just in case. Really not a big deal.

That's good to know. I have no experience with those scooters and it just sounded as if they should not be used in the rain at all.

But we would have covered them anyway in case of rain.

I really appreciate all your feedback...
I never thought about rain either for some reason...duhhhh:confused3

I will tell my Mom how helpful you all are !!
I think I'm going to go with Apple Scooters....

Do I pay in full when I reserve over the phone ??
