Walked out of Rango

Interesting!

I took a group of tweens last weekend (opening night) - all 10-12 year old. I found myself wanting to go wander the hallways just to find something more interesting - of course I couldn't, since I had 15 kids with me. What's funny is that they thought it was stupid, too! Several of them got up to run to the bathroom which they normally don't do during a good movie.

I'm not sure who the movie is targeted at; the adults with me hated it, the kids (tweens) with me hated it. There were a few lines that made me chuckle but they were all adult themed that went right over the kids heads. They rarely laughed.

(it was one of those movies where I found myself admiring the animation just so I would have something to look at...)

DD-9 and I just got back from seeing it. I feel asleep 3 times. It just wasn't a good movie in any way. I will say that the animation was impressive but the story was all over the place. We were excited to see it b/c my dd loves reptiles and has a pet leopard gecko. It really bothered dd that they used the H word. She is a little prudish about things like that.

I went last night at 9:30. The theater was about one-quarter full, with about two thirds of those being children. I actually fell out of my seat laughing twice, and I wasn't the only one. The children, mostly pre-adolescent, laughed riotously at the visual gags, and the adults were mostly like me.

I thought the visuals were amazing and the film as a whole refreshingly un-juvenile and inventive. Definitely towards the Tim Burton aesthetic.

My parents saw it last weekend and both loved it. I'm not sure why anyone would assume it is suitable for small children since it is rated PG which means "parental guidance suggested, some material may not be suitable for children":confused3

I feel like the meaning behind the rating system has been totally lost for a lot of people.

Or maybe they have different views that whoever made that rating system? Like I said, I can't think of one PG movie that I've let my son see that I feel like he shouldn't have seen. :confused3

And that's fine. I didn't say it wasn't.

But, if someone knows that they ARE in fact highly sensitive about what their kids see, then the ratings system should be pretty meaningful to them instead of just ignoring it and then being unhappy because they felt it was unsuitable. That is just silly. The rating was right there in black and white, letting you know that if you are sensitive to what your child sees, or you have a very sensitive child, then this movie may not be right for you as it has not been rated to be acceptable to all general audiences.

If you are not sensitive to what your children see, then the rating hasn't lost it's meaning, it just isn't meaningful to you in particular. Two different things.

No! That's PG-13.

There's PG and PG13. If you read the definitions the PG rating explanation says material may be unsuitable for under 13 and describes what the possible issues are (language, etc). PG13 is off limits for anyone under 13.

G is the rating for kid friendly films.

Parents need to pay attention to the ratings and find out what a particular movie was given a PG or a PG-13 rating.

I had hear the reviews on this one and knew that I should not take our 10 and 12 year old granddaughters to see if.

No it's not. If the parent wants to take their under-13 year old kid in, they can. They can bring in a kid to an R if they want to as well.

The other day this thread had me thinking about other movies...many movies have little tidbits for adults to giggle about that will go over most kids' heads. Like Cars, a G movie, talks about Sally's pinstriping on her backside, etc.

I took my kids 11 & 13 and they were bored. All I could think of was how thirsty this movie was making me (lol)! I wish we would have walked out.

Hmm...We all saw it and liked it. It wasn't the absolute best thing I'd ever seen (the desert wandering part got a little boring), but it was okay- I LOLed a few times. I didn't find it inappropriate either, and I had my DCs (9 and 10) with.

In the first 10-15 minutes, we thought the movie was hysterical and was going to be very entertaining. It all went downhill after that and I honestly fell asleep for the last third of it--it got that boring (the time change didn't help matters LOL). DD11 enjoyed it, though, and that's what matters.

It's not that people don't 'get' the rating system per say, it is that the ratings system is a total joke.

Tangled was PG - and fine for my 3 year old. So is Lilo & Stitch. She also loves Enchanted. The Lion King is rated G and it terrified her today.

High School Musical and Sky High, are both PG and "tween" movies. My 9 year old loves the PG National Treasure movies.

The American rating system is flawed at best, we saw it this year during The King's Speech, which was rated R and perfectly acceptable (IMO) for teens.

It's easy to say "it was a PG movie, DUH" but it isn't that easy when there are perfectly acceptable PG movies for young children.

I kept thinking about how thirsty it was making me to! :lmao:

Me and my sister (13) Saw it on Friday and liked it. I loved the first few minutes of him and his "actors" in the tank, so funny! The rest was ok, I got a few laughed and the visuals were stunning! I would watch it again but not buy it on dvd. The theater was packed but it was about 7 on a Friday night.
I dont think it was really meant for kids even though its animated, I know the few family's sitting in front of us had fidgety little ones about halfway through.

We went to see it and enjoyed it. Me, MIL, DH and our 3 dd's. 17,15 and 11 We thought it was a good movie

My DH almost never has any opinions on what my kids age 10 and 4 can see, but he told me they could not see Rango. He read too many bad things about it.
Now I want to see it for myself!

It is not a good movie. We took our 6 and 9 year olds to see it last weekend. My 9 year old son turned to me and said, "wow mom, there are a lot of not nice words in this movie"

It was a total waste of time and money, at least we used the two for $9.00 movie tickets we got on groupon!

Wow, some people have told me that they liked the movie plus it's decently rated on Yahoo and boxofficemojo. This is the only place where I've seen such comments.

and the Piston Cup (he did What in his cup?) :rotfl2:
I always found that one funny!

But if this is a Tim Burton-esqe type of film, me and fiance will probably enjoy it. Not so sure about DD who is 6...she does laugh at the commercials though.
