Most people start with a 5k and work up to half but I jumped right into the half. Now I want to go back and slowly add some running.

A bit of background....I've been walking on and off for 5 years but not ever doing more than 4 miles at a time. That was until I found out that walking was allowed during most half and full marathon's. :thumbsup2

The very next day, I bought "Marathoning for Mortals" and it became my best friend. In 9.5 weeks I worked up from doing 3-4 miles to completing the Inaugural Mother Road Half Marathon on 10-10-10. I did it in 3:33. :cheer2:

I have kept up with training for the most part. I usually do 3 days a week: 3-4 miles; 1-2 days: cross-train; 1-2 days: rest; and 1 day: 6-8 miles.

I still want to be mostly a walker but I want my pace faster. I like Jeff Galloway's walking/running method but I'm not running much. I've been looking at the C25k training plan and especially the podcasts. I love the idea of plugging in my ear buds and someone telling me when to do what.

I plan to continue my normal training plan and slowly start adding more mileage on my long day. But I'm also considering turning my 3-4 mile days into c25k workouts.

I'm doing another half mid-June and the Disney 1/2 next January.

Advice, suggestions please. TIA

Don't really have any specific advice, except that if you WANT to do the C25K, then do it! Your desire & attitude will help carry you through. And it sounds like you are still training for your June race with a race-appropriate plan. Just keep it slow and steady

One other thing....make sure your shoes are suitable for running before you start.

So good luck!

I'm on week 5 of the C25K using the podcasts and love it! I was a walker like you and I've been surprised how easy that training program has made it to change to running. Like the poster above, though, I want to emphasize that you make sure you have running, not walking shoes. It'll make a huge difference in shin splits.

Good luck!

I tried c25k last May after walking my first half marathon. The biggest problem I had was running too fast. I had troublem with increasing my run time. I ended up transitioning to the walk/run plan in "Marathoning for Mortals" for my second half marthon. Right now, I'm doing my own extended variation of c25k while training for my third half. One day a week is an extended running day. After my half in April, I'm going to work exclusively on c25k until time to get ready for the Disneyland. Good luck, and hopefully you can learn from my non-standard progression.
