I called disney dining this morning to make my daily call to check on Chef Mickeys, and the CM told me that he usually just tells people that if they are all booked up they generally can squeeze in small party sizes for walk ups. Since its just DH and I, what are the prospects of just doing a walk up during breakfast? We would wait if we have to, and we would get there early. We would just take the character breakfast bus to MK and then head on over to the contemporary, so we could be there between 7:30am - 8am. Or should we try for a later breakfast like 11am? Im gonna continue to call daily, and decided to call 3 times a day between now and Aug 4th and may even continue to call daily while im in Disney just to see if I can manage to grab an ADR. Normally I wouldnt go through all of this for an ADR, but DH REALLY wants to eat at CM REALLY bad, so Im doing this for him.

My DS really wants to eat there for our next trip in September so I called to make my AR's and they told me breakfast was booked all week. I ended up making a lunch AR because dinner was booked also. Oh well, my DS also didn't get Coral Reef for dinner and we are having to do lunch there too.
There are only 3 of us so I wonder if we could squeeze in too.

Everytme we have eaten there we've seen people at the podium asking for reservation and they've always been turned away. I would try another day or another time of day.

I would just keep calling, even once you are there on your trip. Like Wendy, we have seen so many people turned away if they didn't have an ADR.

We haven't had a problem making Ar's in the past but this year they are booked for the entire week we will be there. I guess it has turned out to be quite the popular place.
:rotfl:

Chef Mickeys doesnt have a Lunch do they? All I see on the menus is breakfast and dinner and thats it. Next time I call, Im gonna see if they have a table for 3 instead of 2. I know its cheating the system, but sometimes you gotta in order to get what you want.

I tried everyday of my vacation and nada. I just said breakfast any time. And they all keep telling me booked, booked, booked.

they have lunch during free dining. we went there for lunch last year.

Yeah, I was told they usually don't do lunch but because they are so booked they are doing lunch on some days.
I was hoping that it wouldn't be as crowded the first week of September as when we usually go in July but from the sounds of it they will be just as crowded as ever.

Does anyone know what they have at the lunch? Is it dinner menu items, breakfast menu items or a combo of both?

they were soooooo very crowded that week last year. we waited over an hour to get seated. but the good thing about a buffet is, there is no wait time to get your food. plus they had goofy entertaining the crowd. which really gave us some rare extra time with him. the kids loved it, they were dancing with him and just having fun.

im thinking its always different. it seemed to me it was their dinner menu scaled down, actually scaled down quite a bit. tis year we made sure to call early enough to get dinner, we werent too happy with the lunch. but maybe this year will be better.

Oh Boy! Not what I wanted to hear. Oh well I will still be at Disney so that is still better than any day here at work! :cool1:
I wonder if only the first of the week will be busy cause of Sept 1st being a holiday. Hopefully people are only doing a long weekend there. :confused3
I might call a few times between now and then to see if they have had anyone cancel for Chef Mickey's.
I want my money's worth so I would rather do dinner or breakfast than a scaled down lunch menu.

We had the first seating (12:30) and had no wait. We also found the buffet to have a good amount of choices. Not as much as dinner, but we left satisfied. The characters seemed to spend quite a bit of time at the tables too. They weren't as rushed as our dinner experiences.

Ok, That makes me feel a little bit better about having lunch there. The first disney rep didn't tell me about the lunch and when I called back and couldn't get dinner either that girl told me they would be having lunch that day if I wanted it. Maybe then it won't be as busy as the breakfast or dinner. :goodvibes

The CM didn't tell you about the lunch at Chef Mickey's because it hasn't been announced. Last year, it was probably mid- to late July when Disney announced that due to the popularity of the Free Dining package they were making some adjustments. Those included adding a lunch at Chef Mickey's and offering a "trade" to exchange TS credits for CS credits (you could get a CS meal plus an extra snack, I think, or a lanyard).

I'd probably call every day or two if I really *had* to get Chef Mickey's, and definitely try when you're there on-site. Stay tuned to the DIS for news on whether Disney opens a CM lunch. Good luck!

I don't see it as a problem I have done it with my family and
I am a party of 7. I do not see you having a problem at all. Will you have to wait Iam sure you will. But my guess would be 10 mins 15 mins tops.
This is our Favorite resturant ate there a lot & love it!

I've shown up before opening (easy b/c I was staying at CR) without ADR's and been seated shortly after opening. It's your best shot in my opinion.

If you're the first one there, you've got an excellent chance. The odds of them having a 7am or 715 or 730 ADR cancel (or no just no-show) is extremely high.

If you get there when there's already a line and a standby line, I think you're out of luck.

I called back again a little while ago to recheck on Chef Mickeys and the CM asked me if I wanted lunch. I told them no, I was looking for breakfast. So the CMs DO know about CM lunch.

I think thats whats gonna have to come down to if I cant make an ADR. The morning we will try to go to CM, we will get on the first bus to MK. MK has EMH that morning and open at 8am so we should be able to get on a bus by 7am and get to MK by 7:30am. And then I figure walking to the contemporary is probably a lot faster then waiting for the monorail, so we can just walk over to the contemporary and see what happens. Hopefully since it is an EMH morning, a lot of people might not know about it and once they learn about it might cancel their ADR or do a no show and go to MK instead. I know this sounds really bad, but I really hope someone would just cancel their CM ADR already so I can have it  *bwahahahaha!!* :lmao:
