I'ver heard it's about a 15 min walk to Epcot from BCV. Is it a shady walk or is it in the hot sun?

How long does it take to walk to MGM? Again, is it a shady or sunny walk? Is it worth it to take the launch or bus instead?

Thanks

From the farthest reaches of BCV to the Epcot International Gateway is about a 10 minute walk - pretty much no shade once you leave the BCV/BC hotel hallways

From BCV to MGM is about a 15 minute walk at a fair pace - no shade at all except for when you walk under the Buena Vista Drive bridge

The walk is almost always faster than the launch but the launch is quite nice and relaxing

We walk to Epcot when we stay at BCV and to MGM we usually take the launch unless it is a moderate day when we will enjoy the walk

thanks

From what we experience the walk to Epcot is really short. It never took us longer then 5-10 minutes.

The walk to MGM is a lot longer, maybe 20-30minutes depending on your speed. A lot of times we would walk home from MGM, it's a nice walk at night but during the day it wasn't fun in the heat, no shade along the way.

We always walked to Epcot and took the boat to MGM.

The walk to BCV has some shade to it once you reach the are where the trams used to drop off people, then you have the entrance, then the walk up to the International Gate Way is all shade, you can jump into the gift shop near the entrance to cool off also. The thing about both walks is if you are healthy they really are not a problem, very short, but if you have any problems, these short walks can get very long. Take the boat to either place if you have any problems, it makes for a pleasant start to the day rather than being tired from walking.

Caskbill has reported the exact distances for many areas around WDW using data from his GPS device. While he may not have measured the distances from BCV to Epcot and MGM, he has provided measurements from BWV to MGM, distances around Crescent Lake (the lake encircled by BWV, BWV, S/D) and measurements from BWV to Epcot.

Having walked these paths many times, the walk from BWV usually takes us about 15 minutes and another 10 minutes to walk from BWV to BCV. It's about 5-10 minutes from BCV to Epcot (depending on your villa loctaion within BCV). The walks are usually pretty much in the sun, without much opportunity for shaded areas along the way, but they are well lit and can be safely negotiated at night.

Enjoy!

Walking to Epcot from BCV is easier if you go under the bridge from BW and wallk along the canal. There is sometimes shade and no hill to go up. Also seems a little cooler by the water. Just stay to the right as you walk toward EPCOT.

We usually walk to both from Boardwalk. It was so hot last week it was nice to be able to take the launch to and from Epcot.

To me it seems just as far to walk to the launch from BCV as it is to walk to EPCOT.

The walk from BCV to MGM takes a delightful 20 minutes if it is not too hot. The R/T makes a great early morning walk. Unless you want the exercise, use WDW transportation. You will do plenty of walking and standing while in the park. At least plan on taking the launch back home at the end of the day, especially if you are carrying and packages or other bags.

I agree with ronw.. I would never take the boat to Epcot from BCV, the walk to Epcot is the same distance as the walk to the boat launch.

Walk to Epcot from BCV - same distance as walking to the launch! To MGM we usually take the launch in the AM and walk back in the afternoon - it's much quicker than waiting for the launch.

It really depends on how fast you walk. We normally walk from BCV to MGM and invariably get rained on while walking back This hastens the trek.

On my last WDW trip, before DVC, I ate dinner at Cape May Cafe.
I parked in the far corner of the lot next to BCV. After dinner and yes, still within my 3 hour pass time, I thought I would just walk over to Epcot for Illuminations. I walked past the BCV Dunes Cove pool and out to a sidewalk along a road. I continued until I did finally realize that I was underneath the boat canal. I turned around and went back and finally found the right path around the backside of BCV. That was certainly more than a 10 minute walk.
When I stay there this July on points, I won't make that mistake.

Here's a Picture that illustrates that well. The BCV are in the upper middle. The EPCOT INternational Gateway entrance is to the far right and the YC/BC launch is that walkway out into the lake to what looks like a lighthouse on the left.
