After much debate about walk times I decided to apply a little science (and Google Earth) to calculate the walktimes based on the average walking speed of 3.1 mph (Wikipedia) and an average wait time of 1 minute per crosswalk... Walktimes are calculated from the centre of the hotel complex to the Security Check station (Bag search) and the +/- time is the estimated difference between those rooms nearer to DL or hotel exit against those that are further away. Small Hotels will have no variance.

Distances are in metres and feet...

GC 230m 755ft 3.8 minutes +/- 1.5 min DTD factor added
Park Vue 380m 1247ft 5.5 minutes +/- 1 min
BWPPI 420m 1378ft 6.0 minutes +/- 1 min
DLH 470m 1542ft 9.0 minutes +/- 1.5 min DTD factor added
Tropicanna 470m 1542ft 6.5 minutes +/- 1 min
Carousel Inn 510m 1674ft 7.0 minutes +/- 1 min
Ramada Maingate 560m 1836ft 7.7 minutes +/- 1 min
PPH via GC 600m 1970ft 9.2 minutes +/- 1 min DTD factor added
PPH via street 720m 2736ft 11.7 minutes +/- 1 min DTD factor added
Anaheim Plaza 625m 2054ft 9.5 minutes +/- 1min
Fairfield Inn 650m 2135ft 9.0 minutes +/- 1 min
HoJos via S Man' 750m 2462ft 10.0 minutes +/- 1 min (cut thru dropoff area)
HoJos via Harb 780m 2560ft 11.4 minutes +/- 1 min
Qual Inn Manch 880m 2890ft 11.6 minutes +/- 1min (cut thru dropoff area)
CCI 880m 2890ft 11.6 minutes +/- 1 min
ABVI Katella 1090m 3577ft 15.0 minutes +/- 0min (Small Hotel)
Res Innmaingate 1100m 3605ft 16.0 minutes +/- 0.5min
Super8 Katella 1130m 3706ft 15.5 minutes -/- 0 min
Red Lion 1200m 3940ft 17.7 minutes +/- 0 min
Annabella via GC 1330m 4400ft 17.0 minutes +/- 1.5 min
Hilton Anaheim 1650m 5500ft 23 minutes +/- 1.5 minutes

DTD Factor relates to the more crowded area of DTD that slows walking speed.

Ok, this is interesting. But I'm a little confused. Is it the distance from the hotel to the gates of DL?

It is the time from the centre of the hotel to the Security Check station, i thought this was the best point to "arriving at DL" as it represents the first possible wait point.

It is pretty neat.. you should make one the estimates to DTD

Yeah but you can't walk 3.1 mph at DL. Too many people.

This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

The thought that I have looking at the times is that it is a little quicker than realistic. Or, I am a really slow walker (which is possible). Hmmm.... At 3.1 mph, that is 1 mile in 20 minutes. Seems a little fast to me, but nonetheless, this is a good gauge!

Ok, that is logical. I was wondering about this just the other day but didn't have the means to check it out. It seems like it takes us faster than 11 min to get there from CCI though. We are fast walkers though. I will have to time it next time. I'm always timing different ways to and from work everyday to see which way is faster. Thanks for doing all this work!

Thanks for taking the time to calculate these. It seems about right to me. The only thing you have to factor in is that there are lots of pedestrians, so you may walk slower behind them or have to stop for lights. My daughter never wanted to J-walk (I have taught her annoyingly well!:lmao:) for the Hojos short cut, so we just walked on the same side of Harbor as the hotel and crossed at the light. It seemed like it took just under 15 mins for us.

I am glad to see that CCI is about the same distance as Hojos, since we are planning on staying there next and I have been concerned about the walk without shuttle.

? No need to J-walk. Hojos is at Harbor and Manchester. Just cross to the Disney side of Harbor at the light at Manchester. You will walk behind far fewer people.

Yes, no need to J-walk, I was thinking the same thing... We do just walk on the Harbor Blvd side, but had always been cutting through Mimi's parking lot thinking it had shaved some distance off, but it is NEGLIGIBLE from doing a Google distance walking map, and now I see it is safer to just walk up to the corner where Mimi's is, then turn onto Harbor Blvd if you are not taking 'the shortcut' on the other side of the street. I agree it is a shortcut, but don't always feel as comfortable walking on that side.

Hmm....there does seem to be a missing component...we were able to walk to the park FAR faster from BWPPI than the DLH. The congestion in DTD is my guess.

Hmm...that is interesting. I was always told to J-walk for the quick route to the bus/taxi area, then cut through that to get to the gates. We stayed at Hojos a few years ago and just ended up walking down Harbor the whole way and crossing at the light right in front of the entrance. And yes, it did seem far! Especially at night when every step took way too long. We did cut through Mimi's, but got a bad feeling about it late at night.

Lots of interesting points here...

Yes we all walk at different speeds so for some these times will seem to long and for others too short but this is just a guide based on average adult walking speed. This guide includes a factor of one minute wait per crosswalk so of course sometimes you will have no wait and others you might be waiting longer... On our last trip by fluking the lights and walking quickly (we were walking to DL) we did the walk in a little over 10 minutes (instead of the listed 15) however I also know there were some walks back that took longer than 15.

Likewise I have heard people say they did the walk from HoJos in 7 minutes, once again if you were on the side of the hotel nearest DL, fluked the crosswalk and walked quickly then this is very possible. But likewise that same person with the same circumstances could also walk from Park Vue in 2 minutes so its still all relative...

Good point on walking through DTD... It would be harder to get up to speed through there, also BWPPI is a much smaller hotel and lift wait times may affect these bigger hotels as well... But I also made an error in DLH and PPH as they both have Crosswalks... I have corrected it now. This feels better timewise, I also feel the nearest Harbor hotels are quicker than DLH

We stayed at DLH last summer and it took the three adult Dobies at LEAST 10-12 minutes to walk to security. . .you really can't walk in a straight line because of the planters and kiosks, there are people strolling and enjoying themselves, and little kids darting around, and the whole stroller issue. . .although I have never stayed on Harbor I assume it is the same on the sidewalks on busy times. . .

When we stayed at DLH it was, as you said, about 15 minutes to the gates. BWPPI it was more like 5. That walk spoiled us...we are staying at HoJo next month and I'm curious how long the walk will feel after we walk by BWPPI.

Walking Harbor is not too bad, there is usually plenty of room to go around and certainly a lot less people than DTD. Perhaps we need to add a DTD delay for those coming through from that side... I walked to DLH last trip and it didn't seem to be 15 minutes, but nor do I feel it was 6.5 minutes either... Maybe we need to add a three minute DTD delay for DLH and one minute for GC?

Mods should definitely sticky this info as people are asking all the time...

We have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel so many times (way too many to count at this point) and I agree--it is NOT a 15 minutes walk. We did stay one night at Best Western Park Place Inn last summer, and let me tell you, I would have gladly walked a few more minutes to avoid that experience. The walk from DLH is always under 10 mins for us.

Wow. Ok then.
