When we were there in January I wasn't able to go on it b/c I had a clingy 1 year old with me. But I have heard from many sources that it is one of the best rides in all of Orlando, not just IOA.

Can you give me an idea of what it is and what makes it so great? It will be at least another year before I get there, so I'm going to live vicariously through all of you right now!

Thanks. :)

The Spider-Man ride has the following effects:
-3-D/4-D movie (4-D due to effects such as water, fire, etc)
-motion simulation
-moving along a ride track

All three of these events happen at the same time. The ride is HIGHLY technical and has many special effects.

Here's a fairly good youtube of it, but NOTHING compares to the experience when you're actually on it.

Is it along the same lines as the Mummy Returns ride at Universal? I went on that and LOVED it!

No, it's not at all like the Mummy, it isn't a rollercoaster like the Mummy is.

The best way I can describe it is that it's similar to the Dinosaur ride at AK but not as jerky, and the Spiderman vehicles can spin completely 360, with lots of 3D screens and real sets, plus many effects you won't find ANYWHERE else...it really is in a class of its own.

It's similar as in it's an amazing ride, and that's it.

Mummy = rollercoaster with show elements & animatronics.

Spider-Man = dark ride with 3D and simulation effects.

Spiderman is truely in a class of it's own. The 3d effects are seamless and nothing goes out of focus as you move. The one thing I can guarantee a first time rider - the most amazing 18 inch or so drop in your life.

Spiderman is defaintly one of the best rides at Universal, it was the ride I rode the most during my recent holiday there. I love the 'drop' that's my favorite bit! I guarantee it will blow you away the first time you ride it! I think you'll be alright if you suffer for motion sickness although I don't so I'm not the best judge on that matter.

The 3-d aspects of the ride allow the characters to pop out of the screen and onto your car, or point things or toss weapons at you, that seem like they are really coming at you, due to the amazing 3-d aspect of it.

Think of the best 3-D movie you've ever seen times 10, while moving, while going from screen to screen, while 4-D elements interact as well, like real fire, real water etc., that gives you an overall impression that the characters have really come to life and you are experiencing real events with cartoon characters. Best ride anywhere IMO. It has to be experienced to be believed, its hard to describe.

Is it ok for people that get a little motion sickness?

I don't normally have motion sickness but it did bother me. I felt really yucky getting off that ride.
I'm going to have to figure out a way to deal with that because I can't wait to ride it again next summer! :lmao:

It's a fabulous ride.

I do fine on spiderman but can't handle Star Tours (as much as I love it) without medication.

I have problems with motion sickness....the first time, for example, that I rode BTTF was the worst day of my life....I was sick and didn't enjoy the rest of Unviersal at all....very disappointing. I've learned to bring Dramamine with me on every trip. That being said, I didn't take it one day and regretted it after I rode Spiderman, but the ride is SO entertaining that it was worth it. Of course, I take a Dramamine every morning now at the parks, just in case ;)

The sensory drop at the end of Spidey is awesome! Try to read the manhole cover.

DO NOT MISS THIS RIDE!! It was one of our absolute favorites. The 3-D effects are great, the 4-D effects are awesome, the simulation blows you away, and the whole themeing in general is ***** material!

TIP: If you are staying on-site or getting EP, take advantage of the EP line. It's great! Check out the darkroom and look at the filing cabinets! IMO, even the queue has excellent theming! That's part of what makes IoA/USO so special-every last detail is themed to fit the ride/land...even the restrooms! Well...about the restrooms...:lmao:

DO NOT MISS SPIDERMAN!!!

p.s. go to the Spidey store after for a meet and greet with Spiderman himself!!
