Walk-In at Sci-Fi?

I would say slim to none for walkup unless you happen to get really lucky. We were there the last week of August this year, and there had to be at least 20-25 people just sitting and standing around outside waiting. I asked the CM if that was the wait for reservations and he said "Don't worry, you'll get in in a few minutes. All of those people don't have reservations and are hoping that something opens up for them at some point." That being said, there were plenty of open tables the entire time we had dinner. I'm guessing a bunch of ADR no-shows.

We were there last week on nov 10th (first day of osborne lights) the park was packed! I asked about getting a table for lunch before they opened and they showed me that they have tables in back that are first come first served for people without adrs. We went back around 1130 and was able to get one of those tables for 7. I was surprised but thankful. So if you want to try for a table go EARLY! And yes I did get that red velvet cheescake and it was delish!

There is always a chance, but in my opinion, it is slim and none.
You would be relying on a no show or cancellation. It is a popular, in park , restaurant.
If you know you want to eat there I would suggest you make an ADR

I called 6 months ahead of time for and adr and it was slim pickings for lunch. I chose which park we were going to by the availability at the restaurants we wanted to eat at. You can take your chances but when we were there in June 11' everyone was turned away that walked up.

We ate there late August- it was packed inside the waiting area with people WITH reservations. They were telling walk-ups that they had no spare tables.

I would make an ADR- if you decide not to go you can always cancel :)

I think a lot of it depends of your party size. I think you may have more of a slight chance if you have say a party of 2 vs. a party of 4. I would not get your hopes too set on it though. I got in as a walk in a few weeks ago but I think it was just luck. There were only 2 of us. And this was an early lunch. Like maybe 11:30ish. While we were waiting to be seated they announced they were no longer accepting walk ins only reservation. And when we left the lobby was packed. I think we just walked up at the right time.

I think you have a better chance if you have a small party and try an off time like between lunch and dinner.

The odds of making a reservation onsite are not any better than they would be of making one before you leave. WDW does not hold back reservations or reserve space for walk-ins. (although, there are reports here that Sci-Fi may hold actual tables in the back of the restaurant for walk-ins... I would guess it depends on how busy it is that day)

A party of one or two may be able to swing a "hitchhiker" spot but those odds are not as good for larger parties.

Prior to the free-dining days, we did walk up to Sci-Fi once and got in immediately. It was a late lunch (around 1:30) but we did. That was a good 4-5 years ago though. I've always been a ADR gal, but lunches I hate being tied down on so we just float like a Cheerio in the milk. :) As long as you are open to options, give it a shot, you may or may not. Just try to go early or late for the meal. Prime meal times would be much harder.
