Walk from Paradise Pier

All of our recent trips we were in the Wonder(south) tower at the DLH the walk to GC was slightly longer than from the PPH we had stayed at back in 2004. It was slightly shorter to go through DTD than the walk from PPH. One of the things I have not seen anyone mention is that in 2004 PPH offered a free (I tipped) golf cart ride from the back door of the hotel to DTD near the Sorcer's hat. One of the drivers even gave me his cell phone so i could call for a pickup on the way back. Anyone know if they still do this? We will be there next week but two grand kids and strollers will probably mean a walk through GCH.

Oh that is interesting to know! I have a hunch that if they were still doing that sort of thing, someone here on DIS would know about it. It must not be something DLR wants to encourage, or too many people who don't really need the golf cart help would be taking advantage of it. That seems like it would be great for people who want it or need it due to serious mobility issues. But I honestly don't think the walk itself from PPH to anywhere and back is that bad - I think it seems worse than it really is, especially at the end of a long day when people are already exhausted. But I always tell myself, 'Well, if I am going to be doing all that walking in the parks anyway, then I can certainly walk across the street to the PPH.' Plus, taking the short cut is a great way to roam through the GCH property and through DTD and get in the spirit of things before getting to the gates. More opportunities to take pictures!

Hmm. I wonder what Albort is talking about then? The Timon lot (I had no idea what those lots were called until I wikimapia'd them) isn't just around the corner, so...:confused3

Just go across the street and through GCH. Go in the main doors of GCH, turn left, go down the hallway with several sets of small stairs (and a ramp for those on wheels), out the sliding glass doors at the end of the hall, follow the path, you come out about 1/2 or 2/3 of the way through DTD.

just fyi, in the future, you can just walk around the corner and hop on the tram to take you to the front of the park...

im saying in the future. ive heard end of summer or end of the year.

Timon lot will be bye bye(end of Summer or end of year), but a tram service will be running on that same route to the front of the park. That entire Simba lot (Even for guest) will be used in Timon's place.

So im saying, i know a lot of you plan a year in advance, but Simba lot WILL have tram services soon. They is this BIIIIIG section of the lot repaved for tram things to go in. I saw them testing it as well.

I have stayed at all 3 DL hotels in the last year, PP twice. I like PP, and thought the walk was fine, no big deal at all. I often cut thru GC. But sometimes I enjoyed exploring the DL hotel grounds, and went that way. (which is slightly out of the way, shorter to walk to PP down the "street" from DD).

I LOVE DL! The view from PP can be amazing, park view, upper floor. Last summer I could watch and hear ELP every night from my room.

Albort I posted two options. First is to have DCA move all the way to Katella and second is for DCa move almost to Katella and leave a tram way.

I believe that with proper engineering Disneyland can avoid that light so the trams do not have to stop or hold up traffic. Also it would not be looking good if disabled guests were being rerouted to the parking garage while all other guests were hiking to the monorail or half a mile to Main Gate. It is a marketing nightmare as is and a traffic congestion problem.

I never doubtd you, Albort, and truly believe that engineering and planning can make this work and soon. With summer crowds expected to be as bad as recent Sundays they will be facing the wrath of guests who do not want to walk a mile round trip. I did a trip that sent me around the garage then a 45 minute or more wait because of incompetent management.

Well, i still think they will make a route going from Harbor to Simba to accept traffic so it doesnt not hold up street traffic.

Id say, splitting Simba into 3 lots, North Lot, West Lot and East Lost.

North Lot and East lot will be filled the current way, being the overflow lot of Timon Lot(which wont exist). The 2 lanes of them 3 lanes most likely cuttin through Backstage area.

West lot will be filled via Entrance on Katella. So 2 exits.

The really REALLY bad point is all those cars, all have to exit through one exit. which is only one lane and with a yield sign. :\

Could they make a new exit onto Katella as an exit? As it stands you have one lane out and that is a major problem but I think with directing traffic onto Walnut or Katella or underground tunnels or bridges they could get around the current problems.

Not a planning engineer but I know something can be done. Also if they kept the Harbor entrance then they could maintain the old Disneyland look. If they could avoid Disneyland Drive with bridges or tunnels then they could use that as a main parking lot as well as the garage during busy times thus easing congestion over at the parking garage.:surfweb:

i doubt bridges because this is only a temp fix until parking structure at Pumba is made. Tunnels to Katella is not possible either. I believe on the south end of Simba, around 15 ft from Katella, Power Lines/Sewage lines were laid in for the Cars Land and World of Color equipment. All of that went in last year.

Its kinda done already, all the lanes are pointed to that exit, like The parking structure. It works though, i dont think disney cares about ppl getting jammed up at Simba since it no longer concerns them. (Yes, ive seen it before, suck with the 100 cars trying to get out.) i usually just sit in my car and wait rather than get stuck.

oh well, i guess we find out soon. :|

That is why I am taking the bus and in the future if I get me a scooter carrier for the car then I can drive a mile with no problems.
