How long would it take. I was hoping to watch Illuminations and then walk or boat ride over to MGM for the 10:30 Fantasmic. What would be the fastest way to get there?

i would guesstimate 1/2 hr at a steady but not overlly fast pace( with kids maybe longer). we took the boat and i think it was about 20mins so if the boat isn't there at the dock, walking would probably be as quick. it's a nice walk if you aren't dead tired already

just noticed you said after illuminations...i'd say walk since lots will be loading on and getting off the boat at closing . i would think you could make it but unless it's empty might not get in to fantasmic since you would get here kind of at the last min. i'd watch illluminiation close to ig so you could make a quick get away!

The boat ride is wonderful, but it does take about 20 to 30 minutes. We've never considered walking... after a day at Epcot, the last thing I want is a 30-minute walk!

A. Walk.
Lighted sidewalks all the way.
At a brisk clip it will take about 20 minutes from the International Gateway to the front gate (security check) at MGM. (Still will take 5-10 MORE minutes to get from the front gate all the way back to the Fantasmic! Amphitheater.

B. Boat.
Once you get ABOARD the boat and it DEPARTS, it will take almost EXACTLY 30 minutes (I've timed it well-over a dozen times, makes 3 brief stops during the journey) to reach the dock at MGM, then a couple of minutes to the front gate (security check) at MGM. (Still will take 5-10 MORE minutes to get from the front gate all the way back to the Fantasmic! Amphitheater.

If you walk, cut thru the Boardwalk main pool area. It saves some steps.

Take a left after you see the bike rentals and cut thru the open area there. Do not go upstairs to the Boardwalk.

The other thing to do is walk part of the way and then pick up the boat. I always forget whether it stops at Yacht and Beach before Boardwalk, but the signs will say. Coming from MGM, I like to get off at Y & B and then walk to Epcot. I guess I'd get on at Boardwalk especially if that's the last stop to MGM.
We have done this and it's a bit of a race, but we saw both Illuminations and Fantasmic (just DH and I -- we're in our 50's)

We have done the walk from MGM to Epcot with kids (11 & 13) and it wasn't bad, we had just missed the boat and didn't want to wait for the next one.
