Walk from DTD to grocery store?

Is there a grocery store within walking distance of DTD? I thought I heard Goodings was close? We want to grab some breakfast food etc. but are coming via DME so no grocery stop.

I don't know about Goodings - but Winnie Dixie is still open - but walking distance - hey to me Goodings is NOT walking distance to SSR.

the Hess would be okay to get milk, orange juice, water from. just bring some ceral, toasters and other stuff in your luggage.

Goodings is within walking distance, but part of the trip has no sidewalks, and you have to cross SR 535 on foot, which is a dangerous proposition.

I recommend that you either use the links that Spiceycat provided to have stuff delivered, or spring for a cab from your resort to Goodings or WalMart. The cab will allow you to get cold stuff back to the resort much quicker (you said breakfast stuff - you might want milk?), and with far less hassle than dragging a couple of bags of grocery items onto the Disney busses.

When did the DTD Hess close? I was there less than 2 weeks ago for gas.

I would go to Hess, that is a good option for the items you may be looking for. Goodings is pricey - I might make the trip by foot if it was a Publix (and bring my large backpack for groceries), but not for Goodings. Publix is a few miles away from DTD - my personal favorite grocery store, but you'd need to get a cab or rental car.

the station was being remodeled. good to know that it is finished!

Hess is much closer and cheaper than anything else in the area.

It is also kinda of from the entrance to PI - next to the cast center.

You're really better off hiring a taxi to take you to Publix or Goodings. It's really too far to walk (especially with groceries), not to mention dangerous. A cab from DtD to the Goodings at the Crossroads would be very cheap.

The Hess near the MK was being remodeled (I have not been there since completion, it's a little out of the way for me normally), I didn't notice anything new with the Hess at DTD? When I was there about 2 weeks ago, they were selling pizzas for $6.00 (cheese) including a 2 liter of Coke too. I didn't get one, but I bought a pizza there a few years back and it was good.

I like the Hess stations on property very much. My husband likes Coke, and we picked up some sodas and snacks when we stayed onsite in October for a night, I'd forgotten to pack anything for him in the car.

Just get it delivered. Do you really want to spend part of your vacation taking a cab to Walmart?

Or search the hotel store for doughnuts, etc.

there is a Hess station near you - if you don't mind a good walk - go out the entrance way to Pop - turn right - at the dead end cross the street and turn left - about a block further you will see the Hess station (it is directly across from BWV & BWI). Now this is a long walk!!! so don't do it unless you really think you can.

I would agree with the ordering less stress and agravation on you.

That is one good walk loaded down with groceries. Not my idea of vacation and I would also never spend the extra cash at goodings. I bet the ordering is cheaper then goodings.

Thanks all. Especially regarding the walk. I am going alone with DS (5) this trip and there is no way I would try that walk with him. I am a bit of a nervous nelly around him and traffic. 5 yo boys are slightly erratic sometimes

I will definately order in. I don't anticipate needing much stuff as we are treating ourselves to DDP this trip, but still it seems much easier to have it delivered. That way I can be enjoying the pool instead of schlepping groceries - a fair trade in my books LOL.

If you are on the dining plan, I doubt you'd need much extra food.

Pop has a grab /go section in the food court area.

was just wondering if it was better to go to wal-mart or some other store close and get cooler,water pop etc. or rent a fridge for $10/day.Still wondering how much for cab from pop cent to wal-mart (or other store) ? $20 one way ???

I would only take a cab to the Publix at Xentury City. They have styrofoam coolers and are close to Pop via the Osceola Parkway. It's a left out of Pop, then another left onto Osceola, and a right at Gaylord Palms. Publix is on the left after the overpass.

At Christmas our family was on the DDP for the first time. There was so much food that we used many of our snack credits for items that could be used for breakfast in the room. As I recall the boxes of doughnuts or english muffins under $4 were considered snacks.

I highly recommend a small refrigerator over trying to keep items iced in a cooler.
