I've read that you can walk from the Boardwalk Inn to both Epcot and the Studios. Epcot seems like it would be fairly close but is it quite a hike to the Studios?? Are there buses available if you choose not to walk?
You can indeed walk to both Epcot and Disney Studios from the BoardWalk. Epcot is a short walk (5 or so minutes). The walk to Disney Studios is a longer walk (probably around 20 minutes), but I found it to be pleasant. I do not believe there is bus service to Epcot from the BWI, but I think they do have bus service to Disney Studios. Hope this helps!
There is boat service from BW to both Epcot & MGM. The boat to Epcot goes straight from BW, the MGM boat stops at YC/BC and Swan/Dolphin before going to MGM. There is no bus service.
Thanks for the info! When walking to the Studios, do go past the Swan & Dolphin? Is there a major highway/road you have to cross? I can't quite picture it all.
There is a walkway on the BW side of the canal that the boat goes through. There is no highway to cross, the walkway is direct to the parking lot of the Studios.
I clocked my walk from the Studios to the BW at 12 minutes. This was with 6 of us walking, including 11 and 12 year old boys. I have to admit, though, I am a pretty fast walker and tend to keep the pace pretty fast for the rest of the group, too!
My son and I walked back from the Studios to the Yacht Club after Fantasmic last June. It is a good distance, but a very enjoyable walk.
You can absolutely get to Epcot much faster than the boats by walking. I would say that if you just missed a boat to the Studios you would be better off walking.
There is absolutely no better area to stay in than the Boardwalk, Beach/Yacht club area. Everything is so close and easy to get to.
Also, Spoodles has a wonderful breakfast pizza/flat bread that my son and I fell in love with. Delicious and not expensive.
