I've seen that there is a path from AKL to AK, has anyone walked to AK? How far is it? Does it matter which section you're staying in? or, should we just take the bus??

Where did you read/see that there was a path between the AKL and AK?

We stayed at the AKL twice in 2001 and there is no path. The distance from the lodge to the front of AK would make it a very long walk.

Are you thinking of the path that runs from the BW to MGM by any chance?

Well, I re-looked at my map in the Passporter and realized that I had mis-interpreted it. There's one section that appears to lead to MK, but now I know it doesn't!!! woops, sorry!!!

AK is in fact only about one mile from AKL. Even considering that the actual walking distance may be somewhat longer, the distance is not an obstacle to walking, and one could obviously do it if so determined.

But I don't recommend it. If Disney doesn't provide a path, that means they don't want people walking that way. (Can you imagine if scores of people decided to walk along the highway?)

You make the point that things might not work if everyone just decided to walk along the highway.

Well, walking on a highway is not a crime. I think people have a right to walk where they are going. Most Disney roads are "public" roads, which means unless they are interstate one can walk on them.

It is ridiculous that Disney would put a resort right next to a theme park and not allow patrons to walk.

I must admit...I'm surprised there isn't some sort of path - it would make AKL much more appealing if there was a park that you didn't need transport to get to 'attached'

I agree, it would make AKL much more attractive if you could walk to AK. Especially since there's no set jogging path as there is at some of the other resorts. I can see why they don't want you walking on the road as it could be dangerous, but they should have a walkway. Plus, you could then walk to AK and easily hop a bus to another resort if you want to eat there, rather than making a big deal out of getting to another hotel.

Thanks for making me feel like my first question wasn't so silly after all! I'd love to be able to walk, like from the Beach Club to Epcot, or the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom!

I remember this AK to AKL question and think I remember a response about a path being difficult to build bc of certain animal-related facilities.

Also-I once raised a q. about biking on the highways. Someone mentioned that that is forbidden within WDW-I'd imagine walking would be treated the same way-in fact, someone else might've chimed in that if you are found walking on non-pedestrian paths-WDW staff will pick you up and get you off the roads and to your destination.

Now there's a way to save on cab fare-where're the BB folks?:D

ah, the "Disney police" again. We always joke that if you make a wrong turn in the parks and find yourself somewhere you're not supposed to be, out of NO WHERE, pops a CM (a/k/a "the Disney Police"). Big brother's always watching!!!

Lilboo, you may be right about walking. But I do think Disney needs to have a sign up stating that there is no walking. If there is no sign, I think it is a reasonable assumption that walking is okay.

I would love a walkway to AK from AKL! That would be fantastic and great for the resort too! Maybe someday??

I'm surprised there isn't a path as well ... How often do the buses from AKL to AK run?
