This is getting to be trend:
Walden Media has announced that it will not be staying at Disney, but will instead shift to a non-exclusive deal at Fox.

The company, which specializes in children's fare (Holes), had pacted with the Mouse House for a deal which included The Chronicles of Narnia and the disastrous Around the World in 80 Days. The Narnia project is staying with Dis, but Walden is taking other properties with to Fox, including such kiddie staples as The Giver, Because of Winn-Dixie, Bridge to Terabithia and Nim's Island.

The Walden pull-out is just the latest for Disney. Animation powerhouse Pixar announced plans to ankle the studio after honcho Steve Jobs was unable to come to agreement with Michael Eisner. And the future of Miramax at Disney has come under question since the public spat over Farenheit 9/11 highlighted majpr rifts between Eisner and Harvey Weinstein.

I'm disappointed to read this news. The other titles available for future development are wonderful stories. Done well they could have captivated audiences and made money. Further, they are the family-friendly fare that many frequent posters insist that Disney focus on. The Giver and Bridge to Terabithia are especially unfortunate losses.

If Disney can't develop their own content particularly well of late, how can they afford to lose good options on solid content?

Please hold while I change cars.

I think it'll be for the best. thedscoop is right - Disney have to focus and this may encourage - or force - them to do so.
