Wal-mart

I think I have to agree with Mikeee on this one. I'm sorry, but I think the whole "Your reward for your hard work should be the satisfaction of a job well done" thing is a crock. A successful business a two-way street. An employee does his/her job well, the employer rewards him/her.
Sure, if you're employed to do a job, you should try and do the best job you can. And pay/raises should be based on how well you perform. But the problem with that is that sometimes you work your behind off, make sacrifices for the company, excel at your job, etc. and never see any recognition for it. I can certainly see where the morale would be shot in a place like that. Employees begin wondering why they should make sacrifices for their employers when the employer is not willing to reciprocate. It is 100% the responsibility of management to keep good employees. If you want your customers to be happy, your employees must also be happy.

If these people feel that management has failed them and they decide to take the attitude that they aren't going to do their job, then its time to seek employment elsewhere but as long as they choose to stay employeed by that company and collect a paycheck from that company then they should be doing their personal best at their job. If they aren't willing to and their manager doesn't fire them they should consider themselves very very lucky that they have an idiot manager and they get their paycheck every week

our local walmart is really nice and clean and people are very helpful. :confused3 i might be lost in the bermuda triangle, but most of the walmarts i've been to have been overall okay.

my local super wal-mart is spacious, clean and usually well stocked (can't say they never run out of anything). i'm sorry you had such a bad experience, op :( i can't imagine a store that doesn't carry ice cream salt in the summertime.

Wow. That pet thing that you bought must have been really big.

I fail to see what this has to do with anything. No matter how many jobs you have in life, you should still strive to do your best in each one.
First, studies have long shown that money is not a motivator. Second, while it's true that one of the toughest things about being a manager/supervisor is to maintain motivation, I reject the idea that motivation is primarily the responsibility of management.
When you take a job, you learn what that job consists of (and how much you will be paid). If you are unwilling to do your best at that job (for that money), you should go elsewhere.

I suppose that these slacker employees do make an argument that management has failed, but not like you intended. Management has failed if they allow people who are unwilling to do their jobs to remain. From the posts in this thread, it looks like some WalMart management has failed in this respect. I don't believe that my local one has, however.

I think we are going towards the same conclusion.

Would you continue to work at a store for 2, 5 or 10 years if you felt all your hard work was not compensated for ($), your ambitious attitude was not recognized or rewarded and the only advancement options would be to a management position over surly, minimum wage, unmotivated employees?

If you say yes you are lying! If this was a high paying job it would attract quality individuals like yourselves. there would be a waiting list of prospective employees. But it doesn't. Whose fault is that? The current employees?

anyway, I think this has been off topic enough, sorry OP.

I'm another person who hates Wal-Mart. I can't even go into the store anymore. Items are always on the floor, the food looks terrible and I've even seen food items placed in areas where clothing or toy items are. (Food from the deli area!) It's disgusting. I have also had my share of many rude people. I can be down an isle and a person comes along and grabs an item right in front of me without ever saying excuse me. It's so rude.

I am so with you!

I had purchased some sunscreen at Walmart in April. There was a pretty big selection. I went back 2 weeks later, in May. No sunscreen. I asked a couple of employees, who directed me to where it had been. They had no idea what had happened to it.

I finally found the manager of that section. She told me that they didn't stock sunscreen at that time of year. It would be out in a couple of weeks. I told her I had just purchased some; she said it had all been pulled off and put back in the stock room.

Really, who needs sunscreen in May in North Carolina?!? :confused3

I went to Target where they had a huge selection and happily paid a bit more. I avoid Walmart as much as possible now.

Okay........

for those wondering how the cake issue turned out.......

I ran out at lunch on Friday to pick up the topper kit at the other store......cost me $5.00 and tax.

Also cost me an hour from work.

Once I left work that afternoon I stopped by the other store to pick up the cake.

Guess what the price was on the cake????????

They were charging me full price...........as if they had completed it and put the topper on etc.

:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3:confused3

So I went up to Customer Service to speak to a manager and was directed to two ladies. The first one suggested they give me 10% off.........and I replied "that doesn't even cover the cost of the topper that I had to pick up at the other store."

Finally the 2nd lady gave me the cake for $15.00. Still didn't make up for what I had lost in an hour of work and the cost of the topper but it was better than 10%.

I will not order a cake from there again!!!!!!!!!!!!
