When you HAVE to go off property for supplies/food do you go to Wal-Mart or Target? :confused3

Wal Mart is closer. There is also a Goodings right outside of the DTD area and a Publix grocery down Vineland-very nice store. Also if you want discounted Disney items their outlet store is located in the Outlet Mall next to Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine, again on Vineland. Anyone can tell you how to get there.

Generally speaking, I like Target regardless of whether I am at Disney or at home.

But I try very not not to leave property to go to either.

We usually go to Walmart on the way to WDW from MCO. It's open 24 hours which is nice. However its super busy sometimes.

Once we are at wdw we go to Publix (because its closer/less crowded) usually when we want to buy small stuff. Then maybe once a week go to Walmart (because they are cheaper)

If you just need groceries, I liked the Publix grocery store nearby. It was small enough that we could get in and out quickly, but still had good prices and selection.

Another vote for Publix. Since I tend to stay at AKL, the one on 192 right off Sherberth Rd is pretty convenient.

as a brit who has yet to go to the USA is there any major difference in price between walmart, target, Publix & Goodings?

Publix and Goodings are grocery stores. In general, grocery stores tend to be higher priced. Goodings is pretty expensive and would probably be more than Publix overall.

Target and Wal-mart are discounters which sell everything from clothing to luggage to groceries. Target is generally more upscale and carries trendier items including some in collaboration with pretty major designers. Usually (not always) they'll be cheaper than grocery stores.

I prefer Target and would drive out of my way to go there instead of Wal-mart. I think the prices vary, so you might save money on some items but spend more on others at each place.

Goodings is insanely overpriced!

Target and walmart will have less grocery selection than publix, but some items may be cheaper at target and walmart. Personally I like publix when I am on vacation but always end up picking up some things at Target also.

The Target at 429 and 192 is nice, but they are always out of things. It never seems insanely busy, but they just don't restock as often as I wish.

IMO, this is my unbiased opinion, based on what I have read and personal experience while in Florida...

Walmart (as you are a Brit, think ASDA as they are the same company) is generally the least expensive place to shop (and the closest of the large retail stores to WDW).

Target is Walmart's #1 competitor in the U.S. -- and like WM, their stores around WDW are "Supercenters", which combines full-service groceries and general merchandise. Price-wise, they are slightly higher than WM, but their stores tend to be less congested.

Publix is the largest "traditional" supermarket in the Southeast U.S. with locations on nearly every corner in Florida. If you are looking for "groceries only" (and fresh meat, fruits/veggies), this is going to be your best bet.

Goodings is a small, independent grocery store that sits very close to WDW property, but you will pay a lot extra for that convenience -- plus I have heard some around here say it's not such a great place to shop.

Hope this helps!

Not so -- all the WMs and Targets are "Walmart Supercenters" and "SuperTarget" (meaning unlike in Massachusetts, both have all the features of a typical supermarket), respectively.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you need things beyond groceries, then Walmart will be the cheapest and most convenient to WDW, I believe. The closest Target is going to be all the way down and around on 192, which is a pain in the traffic any time of the day.

However.

People will try to tell you that WalMart is cheaper for groceries than Publix, but as someone who's shopped at Publix my entire life, I can easily tell you that the prices, over all are going to be spot on to WalMart. For some essentials, like milk, the prices at Publix can actually be cheaper.

Here's the other thing... Publix isn't nearly as scary as WalMart. As a Brit, well, um... so you know, sometimes going to WalMart is like going to another world!! (and not in the good way! :scared1:)

One more thing in Publix's favor, they tend to offer a lot of imported items, so you might find a piece of home there, too! ;)

Goodings is not worth your time or money. The closeness will not save you the hassle of spending so much more there!

Every single time I've been to that doggone WalMart, it has been insanely busy and an absolute wreck. Maybe it's just the time of year we've been (early June and late August). They couldn't keep the place stocked there were always so many people.

We are here now and found that Target works well for us in price and food selection. My Dh loves Target...
We went to publix and found it more expensive and have less selection:thumbsup2

I'll shop Target over Walmart any day of the week if both are reasonable options (I'm not going to drive 50 miles extra for a Target, but I would go 5). At night however the open-24-hours Walmarts will pull business from me fairly often while on vacation.

Around here the "Super" varriants of Target and Walmart have significantly less selection than the major grocery chain. Walmart or Target will have one or two brand/make of each type of item, whereas the dedicated grocery stores will have half a dozen or more. That really only matters if they don't have the brand you like, or do have one you particularly dislike, but I run into that with burrito skins, yogurt, and a few other items...

We use to go to Walmart until 2 years ago we discovered Super Target on 192, just down the rd. from Sherberth. We usually stay at CSR so it is pretty close. I also generally prefer Target to Walmart and wish we had a Super Target where we live!!
