Waitlisting. Am I doing this right?

So I have a trip booked at the home resort Saratoga Springs. I found some availability at Boulder Ridge and if I can get the full week would like to cancel my Saratoga reservation. I made two separate waitlists because the available days to book were in the middle of the week.

I clicked the dates and waitlist. I clicked do not borrow points and do not replace any existing reservation. Did I do that correctly?

Any help will be appreciated.

I would agree with stalking the website. That’s how we booked our current trip.

Do you have enough points for both rooms? If the waitlist comes though and you don't have enough points, it won't be filled.

Is there any way to tell where you are on the waitlist? I have two for October and have been stalking the website daily. There is availability at another resort but I don't want to book it if there is a chance I'll get one of my waitlists......

No and honestly, the waitlist isn’t that simple as one list.

It’s all based on what opens and who is the first one to match those exact dates. So, you could be ahead of someone who needs a few less nights than you and if that is all that gets canceled, you will be bypassed since they are all or nothing.

I would book what you can and then contact DVC to have them note to replace your current booking with the new room if it opens up.

Shorter waitlists have a better chance then longer ones but October is popular and depending on how many nights, where and room size, it might be tough, especially since we are only about 3 months out.

Thanks---I didn't think there was an easy way but just never asked. I've had great success in the past with waitlists but, I know things are super busy in Oct. I'm only looking for 3 nights and for a 2 bedroom which seems to be easier to come by than a studio. I think I'll book and then keep my fingers crossed.

And keep checking! If you have any extra points, you might be able to snag a night and then adjust the waitlist down until hopefully you get them all and can cancel the back up.

Agree, keep checking. I once saw avalialibty pop up while on the wait-list so I'm not sure if it was a fluke or if inventory is sometimes released prior to matched with the wait-list.

For me, there have been quite a few times where I snagged a room I had waitlisted. Checked and it was the last one. Then I canceled my waitlist and sure enough, it showed up again.

Told me that I had the room already but because waitlists need to be processed by a CM, I didn't know. So, I do think sometimes, there was a match but the system doesn't show you it is there...which is the one thing I wish it did!
