Hi all,

DH and are going to the World in October to celebrate my birthday. We have had our ressies at BCV (studio) for 10/3 to 10/8 since the 11 month window opened. Because of a work scheduling conflict for DH he is going to miss one of those nights. :sad2: As a result, we decided to add an extra night, but BCV is booked. We are on a waitlist, but I am not certain I should dare hope that it will come through at this late date. Should I just try to stay on points elsewhere, and if no other DVC studios are available should I try to stay on cash? Just in case, do I stay on the BCV waitlist - seems like that might make sense.

Many thanks in advance for all advice! :)

Good luck and by the way Welcome to the DIS!!

IF it were me, I'd make a back up reservation somewhere - just for peace of mind. I'd want to kow I had somewhere to stay! :)

The back up could be for cash or points. Just be sure you understand the cancellation deadlines for the option you choose.

I think (please verify) that a cash reservation for room only made through CRO can be cancelled up to 5 days prior without penalty.

There might be a cash reservation available through MS (with or without the DVC member discount) even if there are no rooms available for points right now. Not sure what the cancellation deadline for that might be - could be as little as 24 or 48 hours prior. Verify with MS. Anyway, this would be my first choice if available - cash reservations made through MS can be linked to your points reservation and then there is little or no chance you will have to change rooms during your stay. Not necessarily true of CRO cash reservations.

If you make a points reservation, you'll need to cancel it before the 31 day mark or plan to stay there. If you cancel after 31 days, the points go into the holding account and there are restrictions on using them for future reservations. However, if the back up reservation costs less points than the BCV reservation would, you can just stay on the waitlist to the bitter end - if it comes through, you can cancel the back up and reserve BCV. No worries about the holding account in that case. And if the waitlist doesn't come through, you just stay at the other DVC resort. This would be my second choice.

Waitlists are cancelled at the 31 day mark. If you want to stay on it past that time, you must call MS and tell them so. At 7 days, there are no more waitlists. You have to call each day (or more frequently) and hope that something has suddenly come available.

Your best chance of having the waitlist vome through will be at or near the 31 day mark. Anyone who doesn't have very firm plans will cancel at that time to avoid the holding account. It's not much fun having points in holding.

Good luck!

Wanted to add when I waitlisted for BC last week, they had BWV studios with BW or preferred view available. I had booked one of those in case the WL didn't come through.

Many thanks for all of the advice!!! I checked with MS today and there are no studios available. I added us to the waitlist for BWVs as a 2nd choice. The CM said that she made a note that BCV is our top choice and that we would continue on that waitlist even if the BWV one came through first. In the meantime I made a cash ressie for a BWV studio. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed though!

Such a learning experience! But, you all have been great!! Thanks so much! :)
