Just wondering what my odds are for my waitlist. Staying at BWV in a 2BR taking my parents for a 10 day vacation in June and the second night of the 10 is a no-no BUT it's available with a CASH ressie does this make sense? I had to hold the night with my CC and go on a waitlist praying it will come thru or I have to eat $544.00. I've never done the WL before but it doesn't make any sense to me that it's available with money but not pts. :confused3

Available with cash? How can that be, I thought that DVC members got first shot?

Whenever a member uses points for an option outside DVC, DVC gets the points and turns them into cash rooms available to the public. The scenario described is not uncommon.

I thought the same thing but what puzzles me is how is it NOT available but with cash it is?? Am I getting bad info, I don't want to panic just yet but that's alot of cash I could use for vacation! :confused3

tjkraz,
So what your telling me is that because SOMEONE else went outside DVC I'm getting hosed for it? Unless the waitlist comes thru then I'm fine but how is that justified.

Master Grayson - are you related to anyone in Dayton Ohio? Just curious as that is my daughter's teacher's name.

That's the system under which we have always operated.

Our ability to use DVC points for non-DVC resort stays, cruises, concierge collection, etc. is predicated on DVC's ability to turn those points into monetary compensation. When a member uses 300 DVC points to book a cruise, Disney Cruise Lines has no use for 300 DVC points. DVC takes the points, transfers some monetary compensation to DCL, and then uses the 300 points to attempt to rent DVC rooms to cash guests and recoup their costs.

Cash guests want/need to book as far out as DVC members. It wouldn't be fair to DVC to only allow them to rent-out DVC rooms on short notice.

I've never seen a good explanation for the system that DVC uses to pull rooms from inventory for cash guests. I'm sure they have computer models that help them choose the rooms that are most likely to be in demand by cash-paying guests.

That said, the reality is that the number of points DVC gets from members using these non-DVC options has to be miniscule compared to the number of points in the system. But it's not unheard of for CRO to have a room available at a DVC resort while members are unable to book on points.

I don't know that I'd agree you are getting "hosed" when there are almost 150 two-bedrooms at BWV. Next time try to book sooner. ;)

If you are just waitlisted for the one night, personally I think you will probably get it. But, if the waitlist doesn't come through for some reason, realize that you will have to check-in at the resort three times (first point stay, one cash night, second point stay), and there is also a chance you may have to switch rooms each time. Even though it's the same resort and same room size, inventories between DVC and CRO cannot be merged. You can discuss it with the front desk when you check-in and I'm certain they will do everything possible to assist you, but the chance always exists that you would face additional inconvenience. Don't take it out on the resort staff! :teeth:

Shawn, could be I'm really not that sure.

tjkraz,
Not to worry I know the staff works hard enough then to hear my complaining! :teeth: Normally I call at the 11mth window but as a surprise to my parents who just sold their house at the beach and won't have that to go to this summer I figured I take them to WDW! As I've said before I've never done the WL and it just surprised me about the whole not available for PTS. but available for CASH thing. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. One question do I need to keep checking on the waitlist or can I call to see where I'm at on the list?

MS cannot tell you where you are on the waitlist.

How did you set the waitlist up? If it was automatic, MS will just reserve the night when (I hope it's when, of course, LOL) it becomes available. You will find out when you receive the confirmation letter in the snail mail.

The other waitlist method involves a phone call. MS will call you - not sure how many times they try if you are not available. If you have voice mail or an answering machine, the CM will leave a message. You have until the next day to call and say you want the night or they will offer it to the next person on the waitlist.

IMHO, it doesn't hurt to call every so often and ask MS about the night you need.

Good luck!

Just received a call from MS and the waitlist came thru!!! :teeth: :teeth: Talk about quick it wasn't even a week! Thanks for all the help!! :earseek:
